My advice. Don't use Realplayer!

I use exact audio copy (as does sketch and several others)

For ease of use I believe you can find plug ins for WMP and iTunes

Easiest. you can just right click the file and convert it to various formats. There are some easy to install plug ins that it will tell you that you need them to convert certain files.

*obligatory EAC/LAME link*

EAC's biggest advantage is with scratched discs. Otherwise, it's pretty comparable to most other rippers. LAME is a great encoder, though.

I have a question: why does it take almost no time at all to import cd's via iTunes encoded as mp4's, while it takes a really long time to import cd's via EAC/LAME encoded as mp3's? Not complaining, just wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I am using a bitrate of 192 when using EAC/LAME.

EAC does what it says: it makes an Exact Audio Copy, using some kind of special error detection/correction magic, but it has to read the disc at a slower speed to ensure it's doing everything correctly. Itunes just rips your disc. Even with error-protection enabled, I still find errors in some tracks, and then I just have to re-rip that disc again. I may begin re-ripping my CDs again here soon with EAC/LAME as mp3s instead of mp4 files to stop all this re-ripping, plus I can then share my stuff with everyone via the DC hub instead of just you Ipod people.
