I used to love when Chris Elliott parodied them on the old NBC Letterman show.

The last episode of season one. i bought the set for my son for xmas. they always creeped me out a little bit, especially the giant slinky creature, but looking back, they're pretty intriguing

I just saw that episode of The Muppet Show last night.

Here's a YouTube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eazq_8jCOg
(YouTube is blocked here at work, so I'm not sure which clip this is... hopefully it's either the notepad flirting, or the clay faces. Let me know, please.)

Never really thought about it before, but they were pretty much the precursor to The Blue Man Group.

EDIT: Almost duplicated this thread (of course!)
;)
