Is there one coming? Did it already happen and I missed it?

i think it's still in the works. he's had kidney and shoulder surgeries the last two years. both recoveries have kept him out of the studio for extended periods. maybe 2008?

It always seemed to me that he was pretty much done with music after Beulah. I hope that's not the case, because I would LOVE for him to put out a solo album. But wasn't the whole disbanding of Beulah based on his claim that they had finally gotten old enough where they needed to go get real jobs now?

Didn't see this in any other thread, but he released a solo track the other day on his myspace page. Sounds a good bit like Beulah.

i never really understood the point of a band's frontman and songwriter going solo with songs that are essentially a continuation of the band. i think there're a few songs across beulah's discography that steve lafollette co-wrote with kurosky, but it was basically kurosky's baby. is there a reasonable explanation for this? there must be. though, i'm not really complaining about semantics here; any new beulah or beulah-sounding music is fine by me.

Beulah, towards the end, was a bajillion-headed monster; There were a lot of people with a vested interest in that band in that band. With Kurosky doing solo stuff, he's more free to keep to his own devices.

Even if those devices make music that sounds a lot like Beulah.

i went to this show last night. it was perfectly acceptable. most of the desert of shallow effects was played. about halfway through, he played "emma blowgun's last stand." "landslide baby" and "popular mechanics for lovers" were tossed in later. then the rest of the band left the stage and there was a massive singalong of "you're only king once" and "gene autry." kurosky was funnier and far less cantankerous than i remember from when i saw beulah years ago. pretty fun show.

Thirded. The first song doesn't do much for me, but I really like the bulk of the album quite a bit.

I don't think I've ever even heard Beulah before.

Interesting. Should I throw a couple records in the Box?

Check in about ten minutes for The Coast Is Never Clear and Yoko

I'm offering no predictions on whether or not you'll dig them.

Yoko is one of my favorite albums from the last decade.

Wow, really curious. I've got this on deck for today as well.

It was a slow build to get to where I like it as much as I do now. I go back to it more than a lot of albums that I thought I liked more when it came out.

Listening to The Coast Is Never Clear right now. This isn't too bad, kind of surprised at the love level for this though. Seems a bit incommensurate with the music. It's got some nice grooves and harmonies.

all their stuff is like that. pleasant enough pop music, but nothing to get very excited about.
