A very happy Aural Fixation!!
Went to see The Zutons tonight at my favourite haunt, The Troubadour. Sold out show. First act goes on, The Peels, a girl-fronted band outta San Francisco. They're alright...after a couple of songs, they all began to sound the same. What is it about girls who can't dance or swing a mic that makes me disinterested? Second act goes on, The Shore. Been wanting to check them out for awhile now -- I'd heard mixed reviews about them and wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I found them quite enjoyable.
The Shore had only been a song or two into their set, when all of a sudden, my friends tap me on the shoulder, pointing their chins in the direction behind me. What da heck...? OHHHH SHIT! IT'S MORRISSEY! (Yes, I still get giddy over Steven M!) The man I've heard to be a semi-recluse when at home was actually at a show -- a sold out one at that!! He looked great, bedecked in a nice suit jacket and casual trousers, perfectly coifed, of course. After the show, we lingered to wait for him to come down from the VIP loft. As he strolled down the stairs, I cursed at myself for not having a camera! But, content knowing I have the memory to last for a lifetime. *sigh*
As for The Zutons -- I love them! Sadly, they've a short set, but it's rich with great tunes and wonderful energy. And, dammit, how can a band go wrong with a girl saxophonist, eh?
PS -- Darrin, dunno why, but I thought of you the whole time I was standing about 6 feet from Morrissey. I wished you had been there with me knowing what a huge fan you were.
