 Post subject: A media player that plays .avi?

hey i've got some avi files to watch but i can't play them on winamp 5.05 or WMP 10. Do I need something else or just an upgrade here?

it depends on the codecs. WMP can play them if that's all in order.

but according to this it won't play .avi.

Plus I can't really make heads or tails of their page on codec. It just tells me that all the codecs are downloaded with WMP if you have 9 or better.

I guess my question, chase is where can i dl the right codecs. Or tell if I've got the right codecs. Right now these I get sound but no picture out of these avis.

GSpot will tell you what codec an avi video file is encoded in. It'll also tell you if it's installed on your system.

Media Player Classic + ffdshow = plays everything (including avi and quicktime) without anything unwanted on your computer.

videolan is the best media player i've found so far. it plays all the mpeg codecs, divx, and avi.
