awesome. Especially loved his blurb for my state:

Quote:
Pennsylvania The Roots, because they’re awesome, and because hip-hop is totally underrepresented here. And because Hall & Oates are a duo and I’m still iffy about that. And because Bill Haley and His Comets dressed funny on stage. And to ensure that Ween or Live or Poison will never, never make this list.

Especially funny because I hate Ween, have no respect for Poison, and thought it would be totally horribly hilarious if he had picked Live, seeing how they're local boys.

Anyway, fun little project. And I am a bit irked at the lack of respect given to Jars of Clay... label me a fan. Anyway, if I had any idea how to go about such a project it would be fun to make my own personal list. But that sounds like a lot of work, and a lot of trips to wikipedia. No thanks. (But my own personal PA pick goes to Man Man-- boyhowdy does Philly have a blossoming art-rock scene!)

love this one.

Illinois Wilco. Am I a huge racist for going Wilco over quintessential Chicago acts like the Staple Singers, the Impressions, and Earth Wind & Fire?

another two local bands that I really hate. at least the Thermals dont have Courtney Taylor Taylor so I guess they win by default.

Apparently, LA only has two bands of note. BTE & NMH.

Thems fightin' words!

...May be true, but fighting words all the same. We've got a few experimental jazzy bands...

I love the disclaimers for Slipknot and 3 Doors Down.

Also, he's awesome just for picking the Shaggs.

West Virginia: Crack the Sky. I know, I’ve never heard of them either, but did your possibly-West-Virginia-founded prog-rock band record Rolling Stone’s Album of the Year in 1975?

I must have 6 of their LPs in storage somewhere. I really dug these guys in the late '70s.

I knew he would pick the Femmes when he reached Wisconsin, but I cannot say I am pleased. Should have gone Steve Miller Band. Or failing that, Les Paul.

Stupid Mormon, though. Doesn't he know the Violent Femmes are raging cokeheads, with Brian Ritchie being a wife-beater to boot?

shit outta luck? i'm partial to death by television. i could listen to "i saw the apeman" on repeat for days.

i saw teenage bottlerocket last week and a guy next to me was wearing a lillingtons hoodie. it kinda drew from the show cause i kept thinking, "well, these guys sure aren't the lillingtons." still, not bad.

(also, i'm pretty sure you said the same "i didn't know anyone other than myself was aware of" thing when i dropped the ergs a couple years ago. i'm just saying...)

I still listen to Crack the Sky all the time. One of my favourite bands, ever.

You don't win Jeopardy for months on end by being ignorant about any topic.

He's not a band. That's why he doesn't choose Ike & Tina either.
