In a good way or bad way, I don't really give a shit.

All I know is that I was just listening to "Broadway (So Many People)" off of Low's Destroyer on earphones @ work, and the harmony in the "Where is the laughter?" lyric literally made the hair on my neck stand on end.

This album is nowhere near Low's best, but damn if they don't always find ways to amaze me.

OK. I think that's fair.

ARTHUR RUSSELL World of Echo - why did this take so long to find me?

it's not entirely recent, but i still get chills when chan marshall's voice cracks in 'bathysphere'.

also, the kronos quartet album 'black angels' is pretty chill-inducing.

There's this band from Detroit called The Hard Lessons that I've seen a couple times since September and always thought they were really good. Guitarist dude who sings, drummer and organ player girl who belts it like Neko Case and Dusty Springfield. Promising, but not earth-shattering.

Last Saturday, though, I was up front to see them and they were so amazing I felt like I had my brain deep-fried. There's just this primal rock and soul force going on at the center or it that makes you think, "Rock n roll - YES!!" Without hesitation I'd say they're the best band in Michigan right now.

I heard the title track on Ray LaMontagne's album Trouble yesterday and bought it today because of that. So,

Ray LaMontagne - "Trouble"

I loooove Dogs Die In Hot Cars' Celebrity Sanctum. I turned a friend on to it yesterday, and he was almost as thrilled as I was, even tho it was being played on a crappy indash cassette player.

Another is Maroon 5's She Will Be Loved. Mmmmmm.

this hasn't happened to me in a long time. maybe i'm just not challenging myself with music anymore. i still download just about everything from my usual array of mp3 blogs, but i either just like it or don't. i haven't felt much for a lot lately.

maybe the last thing that made my jaw drop like that was "walking through walls" by jon brion, which i just heard in december. wow. whenever i hear it, i'm still floored and just sit here in silence.

i did, though, have the most delicious pancakes ever on sunday. seriously, they're the best pancakes i've ever tasted. i just kinda sat there and thought, "who could top this?" does that count for something?

Did you use syrup? And if so, was it the sort that came from a tree?

Bob Dylan's "Isis" from the Rolling Thunder Revue CDs came on shuffle on my ipod the other day, and it blew my mind . . . man.

What do you think, Stacey? I was just listening to this today, and his voice really reminds me of old David Gray.

I've listened twice today all ready. Once half-listening in the car. I enjoy it very much. I hear the David Gray since you mentioned it, but my first thought was Van Morrison. The first three tracks are fantastic, in my opinion.

Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks [this is one of the most moving pieces of music i've ever experienced, and sends chills down my spine during the piano interlude entitled "Horizon Variations"]

another recent track is Rod's "All My Love". a stunningly gorgeous idm track with a bittersweet vocal.

Shirley Bassey-Light My Fire (cover) off of the Deck Safari comp is just killin' it. I think I might like it better than the Doors version.

probably, but i wasn't about to be picky because of how delicious the pancakes were. there will be questions asked, though, if i someday am not so overwhelmed by pancakes and the syrup turns out to not be from a tree.

FINALLY bought The Dears and couldn't take it out of my CD player. It's been accompanying me to and from work.

Overall, I am not aware of the effects living in Vermont have had on me other than the fact that pancakes are nearly ruined for me if "real" syrup is not used.
