Saw them at ACL a couple of years ago and a lot of people I have a lot of respect for from Austin love them. I saw you had it pretty high ranked on your running 2006 list and I was wondering if you thought it was worth checking out.

It was streaming on Misra's site a while back. I need to buy it, and it's cheap if you buy it through the band. Nine bucks maybe?

I like it, but not as much as the poppier Love You Just The Same.

Hey, look! http://www.misrarecords.com/centroplayer/centro3.html

EDIT: Sorry, for once I didn't mean for that to sound snotty, but I was surprised it still works.

I hate it when a question gets answered so thoroughly, so quickly. Leaves no room the delicate +1 additions.

Not bad, but they've done better. This would probably rank somewhere in the middle of their canon.

My favorite BY FAR is Distance and Clime, though most prefer either All the Falsest Hearts Can Try or Love You Just the Same, both of which are also quite good.

you could get some of will johnson's solo stuff too, and south san gabriel. to me they all sound pretty similar. centro-matic just being the slightly more rockin' version.

Will Johnson's lyrics/vocals are buried so deep in the mix I shelved it after two listens. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in production (funny that I like shoegazer stuff).

After re-listening to Fort Recovery on the drive to work this morning, I have to say that it's actually better than I originally gave it credit for being. I doubt they'll ever be able to top D&C, but this is just as good as anything else they've ever done. ALL of their albums are growers. For whatever reason, that's just the way they roll.

Anyway, I thought it was important for me to update my previous opinion, as it has been rendered obsolete upon my latest spin of this album.

np: John Doe - "Beer, Gas, Ride, Forever"

Hey, us guys with unfortunate last names have to stick together.

Mine is not very distinctive, just rather bland.

Ahhh Stu, a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma.

I'm really starting to like this album after about 4 spins. I think I like a little more of the subtlety of his South San Gabriel stuff but this is a pretty damn good effort.

Agreed with whoever said his stuff really grows on you after you get used to the samey guitar tones and buried vocals. That production probably lends itself to sounding more like it would live.
