Ryan Adams and his band the Cardinals will release a new album, "Cardinology," Oct. 28 via Lost Highway. First single "Fix It" will go to radio Tuesday (Sept. 23) and will hit digital retailers on Oct. 7.

Fans who order the album on vinyl will receive a special 7-inch single as a bonus, as well as a download code for an MP3 version of "Cardinology." The song "Stop" will appear in the Sept. 30 episode of the A&E series "The Cleaner."

The set was recorded at New York's Electric Lady Studios and produced by the band with Tom Schick. It's the follow-up to 2007's "Easy Tiger," which has sold 217,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The band is on tour in North America through mid-October and has also booked a two-week U.K. run beginning Nov. 8 in Dublin. An Oct. 29 performance on CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman" is also confirmed.

Meanwhile, Adams' first book, "Infinity Blues," will be released March 16 via Akashic Books. Pre-orders, which begin Oct. 6 on Akashic's site, include an autographed hardcover volume.

Anyway, PM if you're interested...

Thought I'd move this out of the NP thread so as to not hijack it.

Some discussion......

So far so meh. It's not bad, but it definately sounds more phoned-in than Easy Tiger. I just went through all of it in a row, and can't remember a single hook or chorus. Perhaps it will grow.

I listened to it once all the way through and I'm the same way. There were some cringeworthy lyrics on there (Cobwebs??). I had it on while I was doing work so I'll give it another chance but yeah, first impression, meh.

And Cobwebs was probably the only one that stood out for me music-wise (not lyrically). I smell "Contract obligation."

jebus. Plus some of the bizarro side project stuff, right? Sad Dracula or some such?

Well, I really liked Cold Roses. Easy Tiger had some good moments on it - a lot more variety than this one (Halloween Head -> Pearls On A String). This so far is much more prozac.

I heard some good stuff on my one, sorta casual listen, but some of it sounded a little sleepy. More listening required.

Cold Roses, for the record, is the best thing he's ever done by a mile and will be tough to match or exceed.

Jacksonville City Nights was a grower for me, and I actually like it more than Cold Roses, which is the exact opposite of my initial reactions to those albums.

thirded. It represents what Adams is capable of which is why I've been consistently disappointed since.

That cover of 'Down In A Hole' on Follow The Lights is so great.

Yeah, most definitely. I played that EP much more than the LP.

I think I deleted 29 after a few spins, and I did not hear Jacksonville, nor this Down In A Hole cover. As in, Alice In Chains?

Although 'Magick's beginning sounded very much like 'One Night Love Affair' by the other Mr. Adams. For one second I thought I had hit shuffle and Reckless came on.

yup.

And I listened once through while running, and I actually skipped a song once or twice because I was getting annoyed. The vocals are too all over the place for me. A lot of the songs are the same formula over and over again also. Maybe it was my mood.

Easy Tiger, besides the obvious songs, was a grower for me too. Maybe I just need to listen more, but I'm not rushing to do so right.

Word up - same here. The warbly vocals ticked me off a bit. Could grow. Verdict not in.

Liked them both. I go back to Cold Roses tracks but can make it through Jville Nights pretty easily as an album. But, since Easy Tiger I haven't listened to much of any Adams. I'm hoping I'll dig Cardinology but first impression not so great.
