From an email I just got from the UM website:

Summer Tour Triple Bill Announced!

We are unbelievably pleased to share with you our Summer Tour lineup, which will feature a triple bill of Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers and Umphrey's McGee. This will be Umphrey's first official world tour, and will include stops at Big Ben (London), Arc de Triomphe (Paris), the Giza Pyramids (Egypt), the Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italy) and our very own Statue of Liberty (New York) with special guest Fred Durst . Dates and on-sale information, including a special VIP Hannah/Jonas/UM meet and greet package, will be available. Stay tuned for more info on what will be an amazing summer for all involved!

Sweet!

Of course they do. They're really talented musicians that play long songs that show off their talent, rather than sounding like The Shins, Sonic Youth, or Animal Collective. That is immediately indicative of pig-headed dismissal.

I saw these guys at that Echo project when we had some downtime, as we got closer to the stage, my stomach began to turn more and more, until I finally blew weed scented chunks on some hippie's sandals.

Umphrey's McGee... the only band I've ever slept through while on LSD.

While this is sorta weird, I think the Fred Durst involvement is far more troubling.

to be fair, I know nothing about that band other than they're jammish. Which is probably why I know nothing about them.

Umphrey's McGee isn't a real band?

I saw Umphrey's McGee play a wedding. One of the members was supposedly best friends with the groom and they still charged like $8K for the gig.

you can do that if your best friend is kind of rich or dumb or when he actually doesn't really have friends. what did yo do there?

It was a situation where they said they'd play for free originally but then when it got closer to the date, the band decided they needed to charge so it sort of put the bride and groom in a tough spot. One of the Umphrey's McGee guys was in the wedding - I think it was the singer or one of the guitarists. Anyway, it was an over-the-top expensive wedding by a not-very-wealthy couple so lots of bad decisions were made for their special day!

I certainly don't blame the band entirely for charging - the groom should have never had them play in the first place.

Sounds to me like one of those deals where the band friend gets asked if they'd play, he says of course, assumes the rest of the band wouldn't mind giving a freebie for one of his friends but neglects to mention it until later, rest of band revolts.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened. What's a band supposed to do when their options are to book a night for free or get paid thousands to play a real gig? Tough decision there...

wow. I mean, that's not really cool. it could have been a nice sort of gift for a wedding. unless they didn't cancel an offical, paid show for that weding this sounds just greedy.
