I'm putting all the NUGGETS onto my Ipod
I DO NOT WANT these to show up as individual artists that have 1 song
(I would find that annoying as hell...like when I added the obner mix as a playlist)
I DO NOT WANT to have to go into playlists to play these
I want it to be sorted under NUGGETS as artist
BUT I still want to be able to tell ARTIST-SONG TITLE

how do you guys handle stuff like this?

Go to settings and click "turn compilations" on and it does it for you

It hasn't been perfect but I make the artist name "{Misc. Artists}" then the song title "[artist name] song title".

For example, for the Germs Tribute album I have, all of the artists I don't own other albums for labeled as {Misc. Artist} so when I go to that artist, Germs Tribute is listed as an album for "{Misc. Artist}" and when I select that album the first track is "[D Generation] No God".

It isn't great but it's a lot better than scanning through a bunch of artists I only have one song for.

Well, I'll be....

I've wasted hours re-organizing my comps. I guess I should have come here first.

You also need to turn on "Group Compilations When Browsing" in ITunes Preferences

I'm so glad you asked this question, Cats. My ipod is going to look so much cleaner when I'm all finished re-re-organizing my comps!

If you make a mix (like an Obner mix) do you have to edit the mp3 tag's to have a common "Obner" album title?

It's probably helpful but the person who downloads it can always create their own title and just sort by "most recently added" to figure out which songs go on the mix so it doesn't seem like a requirement to me.

I always edit the mp3 tags; for example, in my itunes there are 15 odd albums with the artist name "Monger Mix". The album title is then the name of that particular mix (i.e. "Slowcore Monger") and then the artist and song title occupy the song title line.

Yeah, I did the exact same. I think I just called mine Monger, and I added my own album artwork for them. I think Old Monger has the mugshot for Albert Fish.

Its horrifying to scroll through one's ipod, click on Monger Mix and have all THAT right at your fingertips.

i feel kind of stupid for never customizing this stuff under settings

my main menu is now just
artists >
compilations >
settings >
shuffle songs >

and artists that are only on comps don't show up under artists
so nice like this

Does this mean you have the same mp3 in your player twice? Once with the correct album name, in case you want to play that album, and once with the mix album name?

Yeah, it's great! I also noticed this morning that box sets show up as albums and comps. I was afraid if they were classified as comps, they'd disappear from the albums list but they don't.

Really? I would think it would be duplicated. Like if I have a track with Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone as the song title and then have Highway 61 Revisited where the song title is just "Like a Rolling Stone" and the artist is "Bob Dylan" doesn't that mean I now have two MP3s for the same song?

Yeah, I guess so if a comp. had the same song that was on another album. My bad, I misunderstood the question.

This is actually one of my biggest pet peeves with iTunes. I like to make mixes of my favorite songs by a particular artist but you can't create a playlist that appears as an artist's album, you'd have to duplicate every MP3 if you want your favorites mix to appear under that artist.
