CDs as low as $1, among other shit... but the reason I'm starting this thread is because I want to score some genres that I've habitually ignored.

Namely older shit. Jazz, 60s soul music, blues, etc. I could use some suggestions for things to keep an eye out for.

P.S. Nobody, you thinking about stopping by Euclid Records this weekend?

i've found that with jazz/soul/funk, you can judge a book by it's cover.
if it looks cool it's probably at least solid.

Old Sun Ra stuff is the shit:
Jazz In Silhouette
Supersonic Jazz
Sound Of Joy

all are top-flight.

And, of course, you have to dig into Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Mingus, et. al. if you haven't yet.

I wanted to go....but I'm just now coming to this morning, and I have a couple things I need to do before I go out tonight and I don't think I'll have time today.

Tomorrow, I already have plans to lie around on a friend's pull out sofa and eat bad Chinese food with a hangover all day.

I'm gonna be kicking myself if I hear they had a bunch of real quality stuff included.

For jazz, I'm on a bit of a Johnny Hodges kick lately...on a related note, Duke Ellington releases are almost all worthwhile. If you like piano, McCoy Tyner is a good one to look for.

Soul? Maybe they'd have some hits collections by groups like The Stylistics, Chi-Lites, Spinners, Delfonics, etc... I'm always up for some Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye.

Hard, venturing into impossible territory, recommending stuff for a sidewalk sale like this where it's impossible to know what kind of stuff they're actually gonna include.

Good luck hunting.

Oh yeah...lots going on last night. You catch any of it? I ended up going to DOA, but lots of people were hitting Supersuckers or Nick Oliveri.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I didn't pick up anything I had set out on. But I did pick up 5 CDs I had my eye on previous weeks at 10% off.

I got there right when they opened, and I wasn't expecting such a rush. There were a bunch of old dudes and it was difficult to browse. I might give it a shot tomorrow, who knows.

I didn't go to any shows last night, but that Nick Oliveri did catch my eye. I went to Chicago last weekend with two buddies from work, and my body and wallet are still hurting.
