I had to make a thread upon seeing this for the first time today.

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Amazingly hilarious and heartfelt and totally relevant still today (sadly).

Chaplin plays a Jewish barber as well as Hitler at the beginning of WWII. Hitler's equally evil and dandy and fey, whether he's dancing with a giant inflatable globe or dealing with the boorish, loudmouth Mussolini.

The barber's speech at the end is still the highlight, though.

1940...I think it's a safe bet.

Yeah, his first true talkie. Up til then, he had a bunch with sound but it was still fragmented and bits and pieces.

This one has fluent dialogue and conversations like any movie made today.

Great film. I really glad that with the advent of new media some of these films are being cleaned up after years of wallowing in horrid transfers.
