i cannot stand another 4 days, forget about 4 more years, of this ideological bs. this is very depressing.

my wife went to bed crying. i'm doing my best to remain composed.

looks like i will remain on obner as republican annoyances on cmj will just add to my frustration and sorrow.

i'm so disappointed in the people of this country.

I have a big paper due tomorrow morning, and am about half done. It's 11:20pm right now, and I can't bring myself to write anymore of it because of this crap. And for once, the paper is about something I like.

Ummm, It's almost 2:30 am here, so he's around 12:30, I think.

I'm actually going to explain this to the teacher. It's my Brit Pop speech. Whether or not she accepts my excuse (won't)...I don't care.

Goodnight.

don't bear-bait, because this one won't be over until the smoke clears.

i'm no optimist, but i'm not rolling over and showing my pale underside quite yet.

If Kerry and Edwards fight tooth and nail they will do themselves and the Democratic Party even more harm than Gore did in 2000. Not a good call guys, especially since you have the opportunity to let GWB fuck up for the next four years a la John Major and turn that tide against the GOP.

LooGAR might be able to fact check, cause I'm lazy and supposed to be working right now, but since Gore and the Dems pitched a hissy fit in 2000, the GOP has picked up seats in the House and Senate in 2002 and again this year. That's not a good trend, especially since there was a 50-49-1 Senate split in 2000, and now it has turned to the right to the tune of a 55-44-1 split.

That wasn't the intent. I think my arguments are thought out enough that to make that assumption is a bit of a stretch.

Nevermind the fact that no matter how well reasoned, if you aren't pro-Kerry you are open game on this [and the other] board.

There is only no real difference between questioning Kerry's patriotism or calling the current president a retarded chimp.

i think that you are an arguable balance of well-reasoned and snarky, and snarky begets snarky.

which is better, a giant douche or a turd sandwich?

in this case, i would think that herman munster would make a better president than rainman.

in truth, i am asking myself how it is that my ideals seem to be so out of line with those of the great swath of red in the middle of the country, and what i can do, starting tomorrow, to change that situation. calling kerry too liberal just seems crazy to me, when i think of how centrist he is.

this situation has me asking myself questions - i wish that i was republican wealthy, i would have had more money to give to my liberal causes.

This pretty much sums me up too. As I said in another thread, we liberals would probably be quite comfortable in Europe. It’s sad, because if anything America should be becoming more civilized and less driven by religious fundamentalism and fear. However, we are seeing the country rolling back on progress just to be different from those “crazy” welfare states on the other side of the ocean. I don’t understand the average American anymore, and they obviously don’t understand us.

Seriously, Bush says they (the terrorists) hate our freedoms, but I’m convinced Ashcroft hates civil liberties just as much. Bush constantly bashes Osama for his use of violence, but Bush’s war ends up killing 10,000-30,000 people. There really is a reality gap between them (conservative America) and us (liberal America), and it's only going to get worse over the next 4 years.

statements made by my boss's wife yesterday:

"War is hell and people get killed. That's just the way it is."

"People have to understand that these terrorists will stop at nothing and Bush is the only one looking out for us."

"Hussein would have spearheaded an attack against this country."

"I can't vote for anyone who's not pro-life."

"Bush is making the world safer."

And she's a sweet 60-year old Baptist woman who's the most pleasant person to chat with (non-politically) you'll ever meet.

There's a huge amount of b.s. swallowing and blind-eye-turning that is being done by many millions of people in this country. I think it's because people like this lady and my mom cannot accept that the "moral" choice is the corrupt one, the one doing the lying, the one doing the manipulating.

Because then America wouldn't be a great role model and beacon and their worldviews couldn't be safe and pure. And I say that as someone who grew up with the safe-and-pure belief structure. I think many millions of Bush supporters are good and decent people who simply can't fathom or accept that the line they've been fed is bullshit roasted finely and thoroughly.

And the ones who say an administration that attacks the wrong country and goes after the wrong man is making our nation safer from terrorism are simply wrong.

I'm depressed but at the end of the day it's not really going to effect me.

I'm pretty sure Scotland is down the invasion list (although we do have large oil fields, so watch out!) and it's your country that's going to go down the toilet so...meh...I'm getting on with my day.

Careful what you say. I mentioned on the cmj board that as a Canadian GWB's administration hasn't really affected me day to day, and I got called naive and simple. Maybe I am, but I don't need some centre of the universe American telling me that.....

That being said, it is depressing seeing that smirking, smug asshole win again. Let's hope that there's some Nixonian scandal waiting in the wings to bring him down a peg. Let 2004 be 1972!

America really has no idea what they have got themselves into this time. I know a bunch of people say it but I think I’m going to really looking into spending some time in Spain for a while. I will never give up on America but I have lost my faith.

My signature is making more and more sense from the average American and taken from the movie Ghost World.

What amazes me is that Bush actually WON the popular vote this time around. By a fairly wide margin.

It seems that many of you didn't expect this to happen. In my mind, W. was always going to win... with as much anti-Bush sentiment we all thought there was, there was always more pro-Bush sentiment than you ever thought. Did anyone really think we had a chance in the South or states that should be closer to Mexico (listening Indiana?) than they really are?

I am surprised Kerry lost the popular vote... Florida really shocked me.
