looks pretty rad. biggest issues to me are no on screen keyboard, and no microSD expansion.

Palm keeps making the keyboards smaller and smaller and less usable

these new phones just make me curious as to what Apple will make next.... now that everyone has the touch-screen with applications phone, you know the next Apple model is going to set a new bar

MMmm, Palm share price is up over 30% today. It made quite an impression for that gain, no?

The keyboard is reminiscent of the Centro or Treo Pro, but closer to the Pro in that the keys are spread out and somewhat larger.

it's not actually the smallest palm keyboard. i.e. they're not getting smaller.

i'm most interested to see what "based on linux" means for the openness of the device. they'll have to provide source code for linux, but will they go the android route and make the rest of the OS and the applications free software as well? signs point to no, but we'll see.

at work yesterday
on one of the stock market channels
i saw one of their big investors talking this up a lot

there are a lot of awesome things this phone does
although i don't think we're seeing anything groundbreaking here
just a combination of the best things that other super phones do

also
he was saying brutally stupid things like
"the iphone still uses an operating system thats almost ten years old."
which is SORT of true but still a cheap spin on something that's actually a positive IMO

webOS (the new palm mobile OS) is definitely a groundbreaking, killer effort from palm. it will do a lot of things that will make the iphone look cumbersome or lacking; however, the iphone still has the apple universe (especially, itunes), and the growing app choices.

i still think palm will be a player, along with android and blackberry OS. i'm going to play with it in person, and potentially switch to sprint for it.

Hmm, this might be worth looking into later this year when my contract expires. Sprint generally has awful phones, so glad to see this.

Anyone else end up getting a Pre? I got it yesterday and am still playing around with it. So far so good, though.

guilty as charged

i look upon all supposed challengers with derision

of course, i still haven't been able to upgrade to the 3GS, so i'm looked upon with derision within the iphone community

Yea I've read on various Pre blogs of some complaints. I guess I will just see how mine works out.

I plan on getting one soon just because I'd rather stay with Sprint than switch over to At&t.

I'd be interested to hear some thoughts on it though.

Thus far, I find that webOS is really intuitive and pretty slick. The "cards" way of multi-tasking is nicely implemented.

Closed, the phone feels really solid. If you slide the keyboard out, it feels slightly less so, but I prefer having a physical keyboard so I'm ok with it. Either way (closed or slid out) feels fine to take a call on it. Hopefully the slider won't experience any gap issues I've read about on some of the blogs.

The keyboard is fine to type on (I did come from having a Centro, though these keys are spaced out more).

Apps are only at about 30 now, but they are officially releasing the SDK later this summer (although it leaked a few days ago) so more should definitely be on the way. I did get Pandora, Fandango, Tweed (twitter app), AccuWeather and a few others for free as of now.

It does push Gmail and automatically syncs up Google Calendars with your phone, which I like a lot.

Overall, I am very pleased with it barring any build defects yet to crop up (hopefully not though).

You didn't want to give the Android G1 or MyTouch a go?
