So it's never too early to start thinking about Coachella... anyone have plans on coming out? I will be there once again, all three days... so far ive heard the confirmed bands are

The Airborne Toxic Event, Buraka Som Sistema, Drop The Lime, Fleet Foxes, Flying Lotus, The Hold Steady, The Killers, No Age, Los Campesinos!, The Presets, Tinariwen

i got that from mashfest.com

rumored are:

Animal Collective, Blur, Four Tet, Gui Boratto, Gus Black, Hot Little Pony, Jose Gonzalez, Keane, KONGCRETE, Mexican Institute of Sound, Morrissey, Mr. Lif, N.A.S.A., Neil Young, OutKast, The Pretenders, The Prodigy, The Replacements, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roni Size Reprazent, The Smiths, Turbonegro, We Are Scientists, White Lies, The White Stripes

but Ive read thru more recent reports that the Smiths reunion seems less and less likely... the others seem a little more realistic tho... I would be against the White Stripes too, they dont have anything new out so I doubt they'd be performing.

Please Coachella give me a Mazzy Star reunion

Stone fucking Roses already.

Would Coachella really be the place for a Replacements reunion?

They've got more of a Lollapalooza or ACL vibe, if one of the big fests is where they wanted to do it.

And I'm with Dalen. Ian Brown needs to get his head out of his ass and get the Roses back together for one more go around.

The Replacements considered Coachella last year but it just didn't work out, but they had admitted to seriously considering it.. their excuse was "it wasnt the right time" ... maybe 09 is the right time.... Coachella is great at re-uniting bands.... since Ive been going its been The Pixies, Rage Against the Machine, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Crowded House, The Verve and Portishead .... i know the verve and portishead werent necessarily reunions since they were working on albums at the time, but still a first performance since reunion.... i dont know, i just wouldn't count out the power of alot of money

I probably won't go for the entire weekend, but plan to for at least one day. If I have my kids, it'll be their first big concert experience.

going out there and hanging with some of the obners was one of the most fun times I've ever had.

though in retrospect, I feel bad for blowing off Thee Chad for Pretty Girls Make Graves.

Seeing the Replacements without Bob Stinson is like seeing the New York Dolls without Johnny Thunders, seeing the Faces without Ronnie Lane, etc.

Not quite true. I saw them with Bob Stinson and later with Slim Dunlap - both editions of the band were great/fun/unpredictable/godlike/etc. Obviously you can't replace someone as certifiably insane as Bob, but his guitar style (if he had one) was nowhere near as important to the sound of the Mats as Thunders was to the Dolls, and likewise his voice and songwriting (if he ever wrote or sang) wasn't the key contribution to the band like Ronnie Lane's was to the Faces.

If this reunion consists only of Westerberg, Tommy Stinson, and Slim Dunlap it'll still be totally cool - and also guaranteed to disappoint the johnny-come-lately's who never saw them the first time around, just like they always met their highest expectations with their absolute worst. "The ones who love us best are the ones we'll lay to rest" and all that.

Haha, gotcha. Man, that first day was a rough one. My first big outdoor fest and it was well over 100 degrees - I hadn't yet realized how it's essential to have a bottle of water in your hand pretty much every second of the day. But meeting T was definitely a treat. Didn't she have a Scotsman trailing her around that day? My brain's a little fuzzy on details like that.

no shit right, I couldn't even think about booze until after that sun went down. I remember shit like walking into the pool with my clothes on when I got back to the resort.

I think the scots name was mark...something like that.

I had a blast tho, thanks to dri and T

Dave, your late on this month's child support payment. Step it up, baby needs new shoes.

I did have a Scotsman following me that day -- he's returning to Coachella again this year. Now married.

Chad, you had a pal with you, though I don't remember what his name was.

That was my friend Dave from D.C., now also married. He's registered here (tetzel1517) but hasn't been around in ages.

Wait, have I met you before? Were you hanging with Dri and Tania at Coachella in 06?

As for me, doubtful I'll make it down.

i dont think i was hanging with them necessarily, i do remember the day that their CMJ friends came to our hotel, i met a few, and then i would randomly see Tania and Dri at the festival.
