[quote]Is it just me, or is 2009 already the best year for music ever? We’ve got some serious gems headed our way very soon and February 17th is poised to be this year’s Indie Music Super Tuesday. Both M. Ward and The Deep Dark Woods are releasing albums and the fine folks at Black Hen Music were kind enough to give us a sneak peak at DDW’s latest effort, Winter Hours. It is phenomenal. It makes me want to cuss.

Oz and I have had access to it for a couple weeks now and we’ve both been listening to it nonstop and sending each other embarrassingly giddy emails talking about how much we like it. I honestly can’t get enough of Winter Hours. It’s gotten to the point where I’m starting to feel like Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain and poor Winter Hours is Jake Gyllenhaal. I wish I knew how to quit you, Deep Dark Woods.

Woody first introduced us to The Deep Dark Woods with a glowing review back in January of 2008 (occasionally Woody hits one just right), but I’d contend Winter Hours is even better. Twangy slow rollers like “All The Money I Had Is Goneâ€

I didn't find much of a description in that review, but I will still give it a shot.

The words "twangy", "pedal steel", and "banjo" were enough for me to be willing to listen.

I guess my post sounded sort of uppity.

I will give it a shot for the same reasons.

If you're attention span for new music is low today, skip right to track 4 - All The Money I Had Is Gone.

That's the one that pulled me in.

I dig this...am I the only one that thinks this sounds like Kings Of Convenience on vacation in Nashville?

I liked it. Not the strongest song-writing I've heard lately, and I kind of wish they would have changed up the tempo a bit more, but nothing really to dislike at all.

Some of their songs sound like an Uncle Tupelo cover band. Not all. Some.

Been playing this consistently all week. Solid album all the way through.

I couldn't make it though an entire listen, but I enjoyed what I heard. I am in agreement with Tentoze on this one so far. I'll definitely hold on to this one and listen to it several more times.

This is good. I've listened to it 3 or 4 times today. I expect it will only get better.

Thanks for the link.

I have revisited. So sullen. Beautiful, but I wonder if they could let the sun shine in would it work?
