man, those two shows at the spectrum are going to be epic.

After Springsteen and The Dead play there, they are tearing down the building. RIP.

I may just go to Bonnaroo (assuming, and only assuming, I can go for free) this year to see Bruce, Robyn Hitchcock, and Booker T with DBT (all heavily rumored acts). If there's one or two more acts I really want to see when they announce the full lineup it'll be worth it to put up with the hippies.

Didn't even try for DC. Sold out in minutes...or did it (ticketmaster scam)? Sucks.

Well, I'm happy to report that the Boss is still the best ever.

Played for around 3 hours and was all over the place. No Patti for this show. She's still recuperating from a fall from a horse apparently. He dedicated "Kingdom of Days" to her. It's one from the new album and I wasn't too crazy about it but the other new songs he did were good live ("Outlaw Pete", "Working on a Dream", "The Wrestler"). "The Wrestler" was particularly moving live. Just him singing with Nils playing an acoustic.

For those that have been to one of his shows the past couple of years you know that he's taken to taking requests from the audience via homemade posters that people bring with them. He'll pull a bunch of the posters up on stage and then pick one, show it to the band, and then count it off.

This tour people have started making requests for covers trying to stump the band. So far this tour has seen ZZ Tops' I"m Bad, I'm Nationwide", Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated", and Social Distortion's "Bad Luck.

Last night he pulled one up that said "96 Tears WILL STUMP THE E STREET BAND". Bruce's reaction was "they think they're gonna stump the E Street Band!?!? You think they don't know 96 FUCKING TEARS!??!"......"ONE TWO THREE FOUR....." and they went into it. That's why they're the best. After that he pulled another poster out and put it up front on stage and they played "Trapped". First time for this tour according to some blogs.

We also got JUNGLELAND last night! He told a great story about some 17-18 year old guys coming up to him at some pizza joint around '97 or '98 in Freehold, NJ and telling him that they were big fans of him and the E Street band but that they had never been able to see them live together. He said that was the seed that was planted that eventually led to them getting back together so they could play songs like "Jungleland". He then went into the song saying "this was for the young 'uns out there".

They played a 4 song encore and it looked like it was over until Bruce came back out and starts yelling "IT AIN'T OVER ATLANTA! IT AIN'T OVER ATLANTA!" before tearing into "Detroit Medley". Just ridiculous.

Guy never fails to deliver. He's the best I've ever seen.

This is awesome:

The Atlantic reports that the WH COS actually persuaded Bruce Springsteen to play "Hava Nagila."

Goldblog reader Clifford Mendelson, who made the now-famous "Hava Nagila" sign, was seated two rows behind Emanuel (and near David Brooks and Andrea Mitchell and other such luminaries in an apparently all-Jewish section of the Verizon Center), courtesy of Bruce himself, who met Mendelson at the Arizona Biltmore hotel a few weeks back (I'm omitting some of the shaggy-dog qualities of Mendelson's story in order to get to the heart of the matter). In any case, Mendelson, a Springsteen fanatic, knew that Bruce would probably play Stump the Band, and, like many other concert-goers, he decided to bring a sign with him. "Hava Nagila" was chosen in deference to his daughter, a 14-year-old student at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Md.

"My daughter didn't want to go because of homework, so I figured she needed a Jewish excuse to go to the concert. I made the 'Hava Nagila' sign - I'm in the mortgage credit market, so there's not a hell of a lot for me to do these days - and we brought it to the concert," he said. "I made it like the Torah, two sticks on each side."

He went on with his tale: "I didn't have the sign up when Bruce came to our side of the stage, but I held it up and Patti (Bruce's wife) sees it, and Roy Bittan sees it - he's Jewish - and he gives me a fist pump. But I've got to get it up to the stage. Bruce then looked our way and saw it and he points at me. Rahm Emanuel turns around and sees it and he loves it and grabs the sign. He hands it to a Secret Service agent who handed it up to Bruce and then they played it."

He continued, "I turned to Rahm Emanuel and I said, `The least I can do for you as a great public servant is buy you a beer,' and he said `I'll take a light beer.' I mean, what a night."

News story of the day...would have been great if they lifted Emmanuel in the chair.
