I came up with 25 for the sake of things. I want to see other people suggest their own and make the case for and against certain choices, though.

The Airfields – Up All Night
Barenaked Ladies – Gordon
The Barmitzvah Brothers – Let’s Discuss Our Motives
B’ehl – Only A Paper Moon
The Bicycles – The Good, The Bad, & The Cuddly
By Divine Right – Good Morning Beautiful
Cub – Betti-Cola
The Diskettes – s/t
Henri Fabergé & The Adorables – s/t
Feist – The Reminder
The Heavy Blinkers – The Night And I Are Still So Young
The Hidden Cameras – The Smell Of Our Own
Danny Michel – Tales From The Invisible Man
The Most Serene Republic – Underwater Cinematographer
The New Pornographers – Electric Version
Ohbijou – Swift Feet For Troubling Times
Plumtree – Predicts The Future
Sloan – Twice Removed
Stars – Heart
Tegan And Sara – So Jealous
The Unicorns – Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone?
The Weekend – Beatbox My Heartbeat
Hawksley Workman – (Last Night We Were) The Delicious Wolves
You Say Party! We Say Die! – Lose All Time
Young And Sexy – Stand Up For Your Mother

is canadian indie pop significantly different from US indie pop that it is it's own genre?

Not significantly, no.

But if you're going to say "Why do Canadian Indiepop instead of just Indiepop?" someone else is bound to say "Why do Indiepop instead of just Pop?" or "Why do Pop instead of just Music?"

I chose Canadian pop music because that's the kind of music I'm the most acquainted with and because... "why not?"

I don't like BNL myself but the effects that disc had upon release can't be overlooked.
