Are there any general sites that have venue capacities listed? If you're lucky, there's the occasional page here or there which you can scrounge up via google but a single site with lots of info in one place would be much more helpful.

I looked up a couple of the venues on my list and didn't see capacity listed for any of them. Do you get more info if you register and sign in?

That's what I've been relegated to. But, when you're looking up about 150 different venues, it gets tedious.

That can be a difficult thing to find even for someone who books bands for a living (me). I have a couple of different directories I use, but they are password protected / the agency I work for pays for them.

Then a lot of smaller indie venues are really tough to find capacities for unless you can get in touch with the booker/buyers there.

Have you tried the library? Maybe they have some sort of directory put out by Pollstar or Billboard?

there is no place to discover this information. you can dig around online with the aforementioned googling or just visiting every venue's website.

the pollstar stuff is going to cost a little chunk of change.

do you really need specific figures? it's not that difficult to estimate a lot of these.

Maybe technology in the information age wont' save you this go round.

Call the venues and make yourself a spreadsheet for future reference.

Right, most new bands that haven't developed a strong fanbase and playing at the "indie/underground" level are playing 100 - 200 capacity rooms.

Precisely what I'm doing right now. My boss at our label has a rough spreadsheet of different venus with phone numbers, addresses, cities, etc. but she wants capacities as well.

I think I will just wind up e-mailing most of the ones that I can't find easily.

ahh, tour booking for the independent artist.
tedious beyond all expectations and twice as frustrating.
