This is one goofy-ass ugly band. Which makes their live shows unbearable.

But this way I don't have to see them...

I'm with Mick. I only go to shows to jack furiously over the glorious male beauty emanating from the stage.

Actually, yes, to me it does.

Superficial? Sure? Why not?

Seeing a receding hairlined pitchfork writer with indie nerd specs and an undershirt under his shirt puts me off. I can't take it seriously, especially when it's paired with the kind of music that the Hold Steady play. Incongruous.

And don't me get started on that Gogol Bordello-looking mother fucker on the keys.

Anyway, these guys make good enough music that I can sometimes overlook this, even with the cringeworthy lyrics.

If you're limiting your tastes to artists that aren't ugly, you're really missing out on massive chunks of the best music ever made. Punk rock alone is pretty much nonexistent in those parameters.

are there any pre-Boys & Girls songs on this album?

I had a really old live show awhile back that I got from some shady message board that was great. They even played "Knuckles".

He was kinda funny the one night I was hanging out with them. He plays pretty much every instrument and I enjoy his other band, so he's cool with me. He was kinda lecherous, though.
