I think they're all white so they probably look a lot more like U2 than they sound like 'em.

Yeah, I tried to listen to them today for the first time in a while and my thought was, "I'm still sick of U2".

Sorry this makes no sense to me. He sounds nothing like Bono. Unless a brogue automatically means they sound similar.

i don't know dude--nothing like bono? i stand by my assessment. not saying they're a bad band, it just sounds like a guy doing his best impression of bono singing "christmas (baby come home)" to me.

edit: for the 1st 7 songs, at least

they've got the same range and both have neato accents (glasvegas guy much more pronounced) but other than that...i think there's a rough-hewn urban grit quality that's awy more akin to springsteen than U2

they must suck as a live band very much. they are far away from a reasonable studio sound and that should deliver only poor noise from a stage...

I'm hoping to sneak into their sold out show next week at the Troubadour. They've also got an instore at Amoeba.

I never heard the Bono comparison at all. I guess I can see it a little bit now that you've said it, but not much.

As for looking like U2, you have nothing to fear.

Singer looks more like Strummer than Bono.

wet reverb drums never sound great and that sort-of-shredding on high notes, again with a load of reverb doesn't make it big but boring.
(btw, everytime the NME declares something as another AOTY, I know I'm out. though that's kind of helpful in a way...)

i have to say i like the wet-fat punch of the drums. the kick sounds like it's made out of a phone booth and the snare has more ring than ma bell

but then again, souvlaki space station is one of my favorite albums, so reverb washes are totally my thing
