I need some advice on affordable, quality running shoes with wide soles and good arch support (my feet are a trainwreck are a mess due to them being freakishly big and arched and due to 6 years of skateboarding injuries). Are the pricey shoes from specialty running stores worth the money? How long do they usually last? My tendons anxiously await your responses.

NB's real running shoes come in widths, grimey. they're actually pretty great shoes for running.

i've seen this question asked on a message board before, and dont' listen to what anyone has to say.

try on lots of shoes and buy what feels really comfortable.
every pair of feet and stride combination is different, what one person likes has nothing to do with what you will like.

try going to a store owned by runners with a good staff, tell them your problem and try on lots of shoes.

jewels and chase are both right.

NB does make a good running shoe and you should get a sales person's advice to what fits you. I have a pair of Nike's. I'm not sure what they are.

Bottom line, for me at least, is to find a pair that is comfortable, under $60-70, and isn't godawful ugly.

The pairs of Saucony's that I had were kind of cheap compared with New Balances. I do prefer Saucony to NB though.

Of course, I bought the $50 pair and not for the purposes of running.

I wear NBs. They come in different widths which I need as my feet are super wide with no arches. If you can find a store that'll fit you properly your set. I usually pick up a new pair yearly. If your running/racing a lot it's a good idea.

Thanks for the advice folks, I've been having some weird crap going on with the tendons in my foot lately, figured it was the 1 and a half year old Adidas that I refuse to replace as running shoes. Perhaps it's time. There's plenty of Run/Walk shops in Lexington as well as a New Balance specialty store. Now I just gotta learn to haggle.

Another question - How much mileage do you usually get out of your running shoes? I've heard 3 months is plenty to ask out of any particular pair.
