Throughout the years, I've been hearing how good his solo albums are. Along the lines of Flying Burritio Brothers/Gram Parsons/Gene Clark, right?
Who here has his solo stuff? You like 'em? What's the best one(s) to get?

PS - I have no access to MySpace, so if you have any other links to get me, with full streaming songs, it would be appreciated.

EDIT - Listening to some streaming stuff now and he sounds more like John Denver than Gram Parsons.

I think most of his FBB/Gram Parsons-sounding stuff was with the First National Band back in the early '70s. By the late '70s, he was solo and off into the whole music video thing.

I have only a compilation lp (wouldn't want to call it a "Greatest Hits", because he never really had any hits per se) titled, appropriately enough, "Compilation" from 1973. I like it-quite a bit actually. I don't agree with the reference to Denver, but hey, we all make up our own minds.

It was a first listen to a snippet of a song that was streaming on a satellite page at the Monkees' site. So, I'm glad to hear of the disagreement. Maybe I will check it out.

I have something similar. Some good stuff, some not so good stuff. Did you know he produced Repo Man?

He's quite the character. Had his thumbs in all kinds of pies. His song, Joanne, is one of my favorites of all time.

And his mom invented Wite Out!

Togg, have you ever listened to John Phillips solo album - John, The Wolf King of LA? It might scratch that itch you're looking for with Neismith.

I have about five of his albums, all of which are good. Magnetic South/Loose Salute is the the one that typically gets the "lost classic" designation due to the band he was playing with. I think his songs are better on the others though. He doesn't sound much like GP but I don't get the Denver comment either.

That John Phillips album Kingfish is recommending is pretty great too.

I have And the Hits Just Keep On Coming and Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash. Both are good. Agree with BG that he sounds like neither GP nor Denver.
