This year's festival is being held in early October vs September when it's hotter than hell. The lineup hasn't been posted yet, but I'm thinking of going -- it might make up for my absence at SXSW. I was contemplating Lollapalooza, but I'm still having flashbacks of melting in the sun the last time I was there and figured ACL is a much better idea.

Soooo...*kicking dust*...if I go, would any of you lovely Austinites be kind enough to host your SoCal pal, Tania? I pick up after myself, am able to buy food and / or drinks, willing to participate in kitchen duty and promise not to overstay my welcome. What d'ya say?

You can stay at my place. I'm only a quick 1,128 mile ride to Austin.

Couple things;

Headliners are Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Kings of Leon, Ghostland Observatory and one more TBD (not Radiohead). This hasn't been released yet but the organizers have all but confirmed to us.

It can still be REALLY FUCKING HOT in late Sept/early Oct. Back in '05 the festival was late in September and it was over 100 every day. I skipped that year but my friends who went were coughing dust for a week.

Not to be a deterrent. Just want you to know what you're setting yourself up for.

Hmm...I've never seen Pearl Jam live (would like to), saw the Beasties with you Chad (awesome!), and totally dig Kings of Leon and Ghostland Observatory. Know anything of the smaller bands?

Still hot, eh? Hmm...ok, I offer a sweaty me then.

Tania, it's my favorite festival I've been to. Good times. The line-up last year was rather bland (looks like that hasn't changed for '09), but I had a good time nonetheless. It's very laid-back and easy to get around. Last year in Sept., it was probably in the upper 80s, which felt balmy. Pearl Jam is really good live. Saw them at Bonnaroo '08. Really good live show, and they *supposedly* kept Kanye West from playing until 4:00am and subsequently pissing everyone off and exposing himself as a self-righteous douche with a god complex.

I thought about going last year, but a friend in Austin told me to hold out and go to SXSW. Then, of course, I didn't get to go to that either.

You are welcomed in advance for the exceptional help I have provided.

I'll probably pick up my ticket before the weekend...
It'll be my 3rd time. In '05,I remember that Sunday it got up to 108*. Was only 95* or so the second time.
Hopefully early October is a little cooler.
Not that big on the headliners announced,as I usually skipped out early anyway. The best stuff is the 2nd tier of acts.
Plus there's usually some great aftershows.

Based on the headliners for this year, I doubt I'll make it.

The list is in the building but it's under lock and key far away from me.

It gets revealed tomorrow.

...and here I was just wondering why there was no Austin date on the SY tour that was just announced.

It's out.

Alot of the same big names showing up from other summer fests.

There's at least a dozen acts i'd be pretty happy to see.

PJ and DMB guarantee an annoying crowd, drinking like amateurs and whining through the acts that are actually decent.

That's why I'm sneaking in a stun gun.
And hoping for some good aftershows.

well, assuming that dave matthews headlines, at least leaving early is an option, as opposed to having to sit through that shit waiting for a good band to come on.

ayup. Some will recoil at this, but I hope they have the good sense to put Pearl Jam on at 7:30 the last night - give em the 2.5 hours they can do without blinking. All the fans can stay, all the haters get to leave early. Makes a lot of logistical and artistic sense.

i guess it's not entirely fair of me to give a pass to SY when they could easily be lumped in with the 'nostalgia' contingent - let's face it, some people will only want to hear kool thing and dirty boots - but somehow they still continue to make music that seems relevant to me, and they stay involved with promoting a younger generation of artists. with BB and PJ, i dont know. maybe i'm missing something - and granted i loved both of those bands at a certain point in my life, about a decade and a half ago, or more in BB case - but there's something about them that seems stunted to me, like they evoke a particular point in time, as opposed to bringing their sound with them into the future.
ok, i'll stop my tues afternoon rambling. i had an hour to kill earlier, and spiderhouse serves beer.
