Maddensim:
"The team with the most points at the end of the game will win everytime"

Quote:
NEW YORK – John Madden is calling it quits.

NBC said Thursday that the burly ex-coach who has been one pro football's top broadcast analysts has decided to retire. The 73-year-old Madden has been working for the past three seasons on NBC's Sunday night NFL game. His last telecast was the Super Bowl between Arizona and Pittsburgh.

Since he left coaching in 1979, the former Oakland Raiders coach has worked as an analyst for all four broadcast networks. His "Madden NFL Football" is the top-selling sports video game of all time.

Madden is reluctant to fly and often traveled to games in a specially-equipped bus. He said in a statement that he still loves all aspects of the job, "but I know this is the right time."

There will be computer generated Maddens in commercials and video games for years to come.

Hate to see him go. Sad thing is, his broadcasting (and gaming) career will largely overshadow his coaching career, which our younger generation probably knows nothing of. I'd much rather be remembered as a Super Bowl-winning coach than a video game. I'm sure that his wallet isn't minding it, though.

Yeah, he has done nothing but tarnish his legacy these past few years.

Eh. I don't know if there's a single national broadcaster I enjoy.

he's far and away the best.

I watched Sunday night games I didn't necessarily care about because he called them. Sure he rambled, and wasn't as sharp as he used to, but he was always interesting and never grating.

I like him more than I used to. The biggest problem I have with Madden is the legion of meat-head analysts that have come in his wake like Randy Cross, Tony Siragusa, and Tony Boselli. I just feel like the networks always try to have a "Madden" for every game.

The NFL is #1 in popularity for a reason.

Does Dan Fouts still have a job? Horrific. Same goes for Joe Theisman. I fucking hate that guy.

Also, Al Michaels is pretty great.

even with his diminished skills, he's FAR from the worst...dude the Bum of the Month club we get on those lower tier Fox broadcast teams are painful

It didnt even really hit me until I saw this interview with Dick Ebersol but Collinsworth is walking right into this job. I'm ok with that.

oh god i hope not, Collinsworth is terrible. I don't mind his smugness in a pregame, but I hate it during the game.
