Read that this morning. Early reports are, of course, pointing to Marty's current lovefest with DiCaprio. This would be horrible. Voice-wise Michael Buble would be ideal. Can anyone really play the Chairman? Did Don Cheadle already play Sammy? Even money though is on Jaime Foxx. Deano? I heard someone mention Tom Hanks...

*edit--yeah, Cheadle did already play him

I love DiCaprio, but doubt he could pull this off, physically. He's not a big enough figure.

I guess it all depends also on which era it focuses on.

Early (Hoboken->40s)

Mid (Oscars->resurgance)

I would love to see one about the mid-period, since it encompasses all the Sinatra lore. Rat Pack, affairs, manic depression, mob ties, JFK, etc.

with the right makeup and wardrobe, dicaprio could look a lot like him. but yeah, surely there's someone more suited for the role

Like all things Scorsese related, this will be expertly done and extremely detailed. I'll see this in the theater for sure. It's pretty well known that he's been a life long Sinatra fan.

I checked on the writer he's bringing on, Phil Alden Robinson, and it sound like a solid choice. He wrote or co-wrote Field of Dreams, Sneakers, and directed a Band of Brothers episode.

I'm a little tentative though since, for some reason, I've found The Departed to not have a high re-watch factor to it. I can't sit through it when it comes on. Maybe it's just Matt Damon or Walberg. Although, I thought the Aviator was pretty good with multiple viewings.

The Departed is not a good movie.

I don't have high hopes for this but will probably see it in the theater anyway.

That's morphed into a serious favourite. At this point I'll pretty much watch anything with DiCaprio.

casting used to be a strength of Scorsese, now i see it as a weakness. But i'll probably also see this in the theater.

With all the Sinatra talk I cracked the 10cd (!) boxset I have of the Dorsey era. I actually really like this era, perhaps more than some of the later stuff.

Anyone have Watertown that they can up? Would like to hear that again and allmusic is batcrazy about it in their review and rating.

Bringing it back to the topic--I make a point to see Marty's films in the theater. No love for "Gangs"? When I first saw Aviator in its release, I hated it. On DVD I actually appreciate like many of you. I've watched Departed maybe a handful of times again since I bought it. I probably watch Mean Streets, Last Waltz and Raging Bull the most.

I have no love for Gangs, i forced myself into pretending that I liked it in the theater, but upon seeing it again I liked it less and less every time I gave it a shot. DDL is the best part of the movie, but he's so overtop and in the character that he makes everyone else seem that much worse and out of place.

I still have yet to see that. I love King of Comedy.

Has Scorsese ever used a Sinatra song in any of his movies? I can't think of an example.

The Departed is good the first time, features some great performances, but since it centers around a gimic/plot point once you know that, it's sort of anti-climactic to watch over and over.

As I said in the original Departed thread from a few years ago - it's Paint By Numbers Scorsese.

I think this movie would have MUCH higher potential if they didn't have to be "true" to the archival material. Frank was a blowhard who never wanted anyone to say anything bad about him, therefore this will probably be more hagiography than a nuanced portrait of a True American Monster.

I thought Hamm too.

Wasn't Sinatra a kind of a slight guy before he got old and dumpy?
