which is probably just rodney at this point....

looking to rent a place at cannon beach for a couple nights in july. i'm not finding anything decent on vrbo, craigslist or other property management sites that doesn't want a minimum 7 night stay. any insider suggestions/hints/ideas here? ideally we'd like a 2 br cabin/bungalow type place.

i'm also open to suggestions of other coastal towns. initially i'm thinking cannon beach because it has all the amenities we'd want/need with a 2 1/2 year old in tow....

I go to Cannon Beach at least once a year. We've rented houses a few times, but usually stay in hotels.

Are you definitely wanting to rent a home?

the boy still takes an afternoon nap and goes down pretty early at night as well which makes studio hotel-type rooms tough. but we'd definitely consider a 1 or 2 BR condo situation as well.

Sorry, e-stone. When we've rented homes in the past it's been for larger family gatherings---I don't have any inside info about the smaller rental properties. My cousin (and a friend of d's) works for a property mgmt company in Portland. I'll see if I can contact her about possible smaller properties.

Definitely keep looking in Cannon Beach though--great little town.

also take a look at Manzanita or Pacific City. Smaller than Cannon Beach but very nice and if you want to go hang out in Cannon Beach you can drive up. Also close to a lot of cool stuff on the 3 Capes Scenic Loop.

ive used this site before -

Check out the Sea Sprite hotel in Cannon Beach. I believe they have a website. It's relatively inexpensive and it's neat. It overlooks Haystack rock, and is next door to Mo's.

Pacific City is great, but it is an hour and a half south of Cannon Beach - definitely doable, but not if you want to make a couple of trips into Cannon Beach - Manzanita is much more doable - only about 20 mins south of Cannon Beach.

We don't get up to Cannon Beach quite as often as Marco, but at least every other year we're there (in fact we'll also be there this July). Unfortunately, in addition to our love of Cannon Beach, we also share Marco's accomodation style - we always stay in a hotel rather than renting a home (actually i guess where we stay is closer to a condo since it has a full kitchen, but it is studio style which is what you're trying to avoid). Sorry I can't be anymore help - don't give up, though. Definitely keep looking in Cannon Beach and if getting a studio style hotel room is your only option, I'm telling you: if your little guy is anything like mine, he'll be running around in the sand and playing in the sun so much all day he'll be absolutely dead to the world by 8 pm - you could've had Mogwai play a set in our room and that kid wouldn't have moved an inch. Anyway, best of luck in your search and get ready to have a really enjoyable couple of days.

Great recommendation. That place has been there since I started going to CB as a pre-schooler in the early 70's.

And I agree with typeslowly--if you can find a good deal on a hotel, don't worry about your toddler---Cannon Beach is extremely kid-friendly (not to mention dog-friendly). Definitely bring your dogs too!

thanks guys. we have found some places that will work in a "worst case" scenario. there just seems to be so many damn property management websites, and cheesy out-dated places out there to wade through.

that manzanita rec has me reconsidering plans too though. at the very least we'll have to head down and hike neah-kah-nie mountain.

that place looks amazing. probably best to wait a few years until the boy can really hike/swim/boat, etc. i'll definitely keep it bookmarked.
