I'm Going Away is the Fiery Furnaces’ Eighth album. It was recorded by and mixed with Jason Loewenstein at the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009 in New York City. Jason also played bass and Robert D'Amico played drums. All songs were written together by Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger, except for the title track, which is "trad. Arranged by." Eleanor wrote most of the lyrics; Matt wrote most of the music and also produced the album.

I have "Drive To Dallas" and "I'm Going Away" on itunes and gotta say I hope the rest of it is better. Padding tunes out by repeating lyrics is not something they should do.

I just came by the board to post about how much I like this record. It's grown on me significantly.

Matthew Friedberger is joint first biggest douche I've ever experienced at a concert.

He chastised the crowd like a cross teacher for making too much noise during his knitting needle solo, or whatever the fuck he was doing up there.

Once again, this record has grown on me immensely. It might be one of the most simplistic rock records I've ever heard – repetition, no flourishes – and may only succeed on the hook every song is built toward, but I like it for that, especially against the density of Widow City, and beforehand. Seems like this record came and went with little fanfare, same as the band's touring. I saw them accidentally playing the downstairs at El Mocambo in Toronto, when I was upstairs Saturday for my cousin's show.

One of my favorite current bands.

Just got the live record on vinyl for $10 recently. Incredible. I can't think of a release that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. I think the warning that they put on the live record was apt--don't try to digest it all at once. Their full-lengths are somewhat in the same category. There's a lot of layers happening.

Matthew Friedberger's solo effort is amazing as well. I picked it up on the first release, and I'm glad to see that it got re-released so that more people could wade in.

i'd be curious to hear his solo release, but i especially like her.

where'd you find it for $10? used? they had it for $25 at merch the other night, which i though was reasonable, but i didn't grab it.

It was on clearance at a record store in Baltimore. Brand spanking new. Didn't think twice about snatching that up. Its a brick, and it included dls.
