RIP big guy.

So, pretty much nothing, and then he landed the Tonight Show. Like the original Paris Hilton - famous for being famous.

Yeah. He was fairly well known as a game show host in the early days of television but would never have been remembered without the Carson gig.

He would have played a bunch of Thurston Howell-type TV roles and done more game shows, probably.

Well, Squirgg, by that logic, Johnny Carson fits in the same boat. I'm wondering if maybe some of the problem here might be as simple as a generational thing- very few Obners grew up with the Tonight Show, and maybe only know McMahon from his shilling shit on infomercials, or hawking AARP insurance, or whatever the fuck he did for the last 20 years. Carson & McMahon were pretty deeply woven into the fabric of American popular culture for a long time.

Do not doubt TEH Sssqqquuuiiirrrggg. TEH Sssqqquuuiiirrrggg is never wrong. Likewise, ayah, wenchlette, & even neuro. (Though, it would seem if neuro didn't have the board friends he did, he'd basically be a decade-younger PopTodd, in the eyes of the many.)

Ah, Monty.

Toze, I used to watch reruns of the Tonight Show alot, but maybe the contributions of Ed were lost on one so young. Carson was perfect at what he did, so polished and quick. All I remember Ed doing was chuckling sometimes. Either way I didn't mean to sound so dour. oops.

Ed was Star Search to me. I wasn't up late enough when I was kid to care about a couch potato bellowing catch phrases.

Or when I was I was watching crap films on CBC Late Night waiting for a glimpse of movie boob.
