Yeah, it's probably his best solo album yet. More of the same musically and a little short but better lyrically than his past two I think.

This will probably move around a bit. Most Wilco albums get stronger with time for me, so I could see that one rising a bit. The Bill Callahan is by far my most listened to this year.

1. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I wish we were an Eagle
2. The Deep Dark Woods - Winter Hours
3. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
4. Animal Collective - Merriweather
5. Neko Case - Middle Cyclone
6. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
7. Wilco - Wilco (the album)
8. M. Ward - Hold Time
9. J. Tillman - Vacilando Territory Blues

Probably something like this:

1. Caetano Veloso
2. Joe Bataan (a close second)
3. Son Volt
4. Marcio Local
5. Rancid
6. Sonic Youth
7. Trash Can Sinatras (distant seventh)
8. Justin Townes Earle
9. Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women
10. Randy Weeks

1-3 are right, 4-6 are interchangeable, 7-10 are interchangable.

Is the new Oranges Band as good as "The World and Everything In It"? I need to search that one out, huh?

And, great call on the Dan Auerbach... it's one of my favorites.

I actually like the new Oranges Band better than TWAEII, but it wasn't immediate...took a bit of growing.

What did you think of the Art Brut and Wilco albums, after listening them on the way back to Arkansas?

this has not been my year thus far...

Wilco
Grizzly Bear
Animal Collective
Phoenix
M. Ward
Bill Callahan
Sonic Youth
Dinosaur Jr.
Japandroids
Camera Obscura

have not heard a bunch of the records on everyone's list...pretty disappointed with Neko Case, the Superdrag record is a giant fucking turd, the Dirty Projectors are the worst fucking band making music right now, many of the artists that I DO LIKE I've only listened to the record once or twice.

Looking forward to whatever Broken Social Scene may or may not put out this year,

3. Gomez - A New Tide

I've heard a few other albums this year, but nothing I'm going to put on a half-year review list like this. Still need to hear The Noisettes' new one, and St. Vincent's is in the mail... that'll probably bump at least Gomez down a notch.

i saw st. vincent on letterman the other night, and was simultaneously intrigued and repulsed (musically speaking - she's cute from a mere visual perspective)

it was just very bizarre and difficult to process

Ah, didn't know they had a new one out.

The other 3 will be somewhere in my Top 20 for 2009 with Neko and AC being in the Top 10.
