I like No Pocky for Kitty, but I think it's also the only full length I ever had from them.

NP: Soundgarden :: "Ugly Truth"

someone's obviously going to chime in about how much better their early stuff was than the later stuff. i think that they've always been really consistent to the point where i like all of it but don't LOVE any of it. the cool thing is that you can probably go to the merge website and just ask mac what he thinks about where to start, and he'd probably tell you.

edit- looking at the discography, i think that most of my favorite songs are on Incidental Music.

That's funny, because yesterday we both threw on OK Computer at the same time.

NP: Ween :: "Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)"

I've not heard any of their later stuff outside live concerts but I love their earlier albums (No Pocky For Kitty, On The Mouth, Seed Toss etc).

Infact back in the early 90's I only had a walkman to listen to music on and bought them all on cassette tapes which are completely worn out now, so if anyone could burn me those albums (they are only presently available here as expensive imports) I'd return the favour.

I'm a big, big Superchunk fan - fell in love with 'em when they were the musical guest on Conan's show in 1994. My favorites are Incidental Music, Here's Where the Strings Come In and Indoor Living. I don't care much for On the Mouth or the s/t album.

i'm a huge superchunk fan. I have deep love for Here's Where the Strings Come In since that was my intro to them. But the vast majority of the remainder of their albums are very solid. But I love, not just like this band.

that dvd is pretty great too.

What makes the DVD extra great is that there's footage of Superchunk at my karaoke HQ, The Hidden Cove on Lincoln.

my favorite has always been On the Mouth. Most of their other records I like to varying degrees (except for probably Here's to Shutting Up), but OTM stands out for me.

we have simpatico brother, we have simpatico.......

and apparently, the same horrible taste.....

np: Frank Black - Teenager of the Year (the whole thing baby, the whole thing)

P.S. Thanks for the Superchunk feedback y'all. I'll get right on checking out the rest of their catalogue as soon as y'all send it to me. Budget constraints prohibit me from picking up anything non-essential right now. That's why I bought Blizzard of Oz last week for no reason...........

Oh! Come Pick Me Up is awesome! I think that it is my favorite Superchunk CD. Incidential Music, was the first Superchunk record that I heard and is probably a good place to start. The DVD is great too!

This is all the appreciation Obner has for Superchunk?

I'm not even going to comment on them, save to say that they're one of my favorite bands ever, and will BUMP this in the hopes that more Superchunk accolades/trivia comes spewing forth like WHOA!

Go For It...

I"ve seen em 4 times and they haven't disappointed me yet. I actually went and saw them in Athens and Spoon opened for them when they had Girls can Tell out. One of those bands that were pivotal in opening my eyes up to more independent music.

Just a great rock band with tons of energy. "Here's where the strings come in" is prolly my fave but I like the earlier stuff too.

Mac's solo stuff with Portastatic is worth checking out too.

Yeah, I've been wanting it and "British Steel" for a while, and they had it for 9.99 at Best Buy. An impulse purchase for sure but it did provide a nice addition to this mix

No Pocky For Kitty is by far their best album, but many of their best songs (Slack Motherfucker, Cool, Ribbon, Fishing) can be found on their singles collections. I recommend starting from No Pocky and moving from there. The sound of that album is just unbelievable. I believe that album was in my top 20-30 of my listmania

On the Mouth is pretty good, Foolish is darker and a little more subdued. Their first album is pretty mediocre. I never liked Here's Where the Strings Come In myself, but I also never gave it more than 2 listens.

Superchunk is one of those bands for me, I've always loved them, always pick up their new stuff, always one to go back to.

Here's To Shutting Up is freakin' amazing btw...
