Air constantly filled with smoke, mushroom clouds sitting above us, firefighters dying, fire troops from other states flying in, 100+ degree temperatures, homes lost, air quality on red alert -- this shit is fuckin' scary.

Now, there's another fire to the east of us. A fire in NorCal. It's not even fire season!!

I'm not affected but I have friends who don't live far from the burning areas. Instead of running for the hills, we've gotta run to the shore instead.

90,000 acres and growing. Only 5% contained....5%!

When will it end?

This is a yearly event isn't it?

Las Vegas is going to become an ocean view city pretty soon, anyway, right?

It isn't natural either, but I'll refrain from a diatribe on multiple issues including the general state of affairs in California.

No kidding. I will never complain about mud season again.

I hope your friends stay safe, T. And stay indoors yourself. Or you can come to Vermont. I'll even give you the bed.

I've got nothing but road construction season to complain about, and since I don't own a car I can't say shit about that.

Ha Ha, No.
We had an unbelievably mild storm season this year. Lincoln hasn't been struck by a Tornado in my lifetime, neither has my hometown of Norfolk. The worst thing to happen here recently was an ice storm in 1997/98 that knocked out power for a few days and annihilated a bunch of trees, luckily I was in South Dakota then.
The tornado that wiped out nearby Hallam was the closest a disastrous tornado has come to me.

yea, its always something stupid that starts these things anyways... a car catches fire and ignites the brushes... then copy cat idiots go and start their own... people not putting out their camp fire and the debris ignites... its bad, but i remember like 5 years ago we had a fire in every single county in southern california, from south san diego to ventura, we had a fire in every single county.... anyways, Im thankful Im in Orange County, well far from the fires, so it has 0 effect on me, even the air quality here isnt so bad, but yea it sucks when people lose everything and firefighters are dying.

Even tornados don't want to go there

This station fire is awful. Its doubled in size over night. The station fire alone has burned about 15% of the Angeles National Forest and I just read that they don't know if it will be fully contained until September 8th. Not sure how they reach that conclusion but damn that's awful. And I passed 3 other fires burning in the Angeles National Forest while driving home last Thursday. Who knows how much of the Forest will be left by the time they put this out.

I work about 1.5 miles from the foothills of the San Bernadino Mountains and I can't even see them from my office window because of all the smoke in the air. They were saying on the news this morning that they are having trouble making air drops because of poor visibility and all the smoke in the air. Yesterday, the air quality index was 398 on a scale by which anything above 100 is considered unhealthful. I can only assume that today's air quality is much worse. I was out surfing last night and from the lineup you could see a huge gray mushroom cloud over los angeles. It looked like a nuclear explosion. I know that there are fires every year or at least most years and that other areas of S. CA may have been hit harder, but this is the worst I've seen this close to LA in the 15 years I've lived here.

Prayers definitely going to the people affected. Cannot even imagine how it feels to have definite destruction coming towards you.

this is really getting insane. A couple of days ago there was just this single plume of smoke going up just NW of us. Now, the entire sky is covered.

wouldn't you want a piece of the fire that burned down Kelsey Grammer's house?
