I posted about this in another thread, but definitely think it deserves a thread of it's own.

MTV to finally release all 4 seasons of the "seminal" mid-90s sketch comedy show by The State.

Members of The State have gone on to produce/write/direct various TV, stage and film projects like: Viva Variety, Wet Hot American Summer, Stella, The Baxter, Reno 911 & "SEX, a.k.a. WEINERS AND BOOBS".

The State's official site: http://www.the-state.com/
The State fansite: http://ilovethestate.thomaslennon.net/

Michael Showalter appeared on MTV's 24 Hour "Human Giant" marathon this past Friday/Saturday and made the announcement that MTV would be releasing the show on DVD later this year. DVD's will include commentary and skits that hit the cutting room floor.

This is good news. I saw them when they came to UGA. They taped meat to the underside of some seats, and then at the end, had those people on stage.

I thought it was hilarious, but was never low when I watched it. I would have laughed at the wallpaper. So, we'll see how it holds up.

After reading some reviews, looks like they re-dubbed most of the music and replaced it with stock music. Ew.

Yeah - MTV used to just kinda use whatever music they wanted during EVERYTHING. Now that they have to pay for music rights, it's very rare that you'll see a rerun of just about anything from the 90's...

(incidentally, this is also the main reason they don't play music videos on MTV anymore. It's less expensive to "Viva La Bam" it up")...

On the Human Giant marathon, they played the "Pants" sketch, and stock music had replaced the originally-playing "Cannonball" by the Breeders...

I was afraid that would happen...at least I have the VHS that they put out, and I believe pants is on there.

The same thing happened with WKRP as well. Luckily it didn't happen with Miami Vice.

i think it's because nobody cares about video's anymore.

when they DO have videos it's either 20 second snippetts so it's mildly interesting or full video's during hours of the day when nobody watches TV.

More State news... they are "reuniting" for a full-length State movie.

They put a message up on the official site saying that, while the DVDs are completed and ready to go, MTV is just sitting on them. Definitely not coming out this year.

I believe Comedy Central is producing the movie.
As for the DVDs, it's nothing another 10 years of internet petitions won't solve. Dammit.
