Are there enough Obner's that stream from Netflix to warrant a thread?

A few of my recent views (that i've enjoyed):

Encounters at the End of the World (2007)
Filmmaker Werner Herzog takes you on a wild and woolly journey to the South Pole in this Oscar contender -- from the National Science Foundation's headquarters on Ross Island to some of Antarctica's most remote and dangerous terrain. With a keen eye for the wonders and sometimes hilarious peculiarities of this icy land's animal and human inhabitants, Herzog offers an astounding look at the world's most inhospitable landscape.

The 400 Blows (1959)
After young Antoine (Jean-Pierre Léaud) runs away, life on the streets of Paris leads to nothing but trouble and guilt in this gritty feature film debut from legendary director François Truffaut. Though he turns to petty crime to survive, Antoine's remorse often leads him to try to return things he's stolen -- with disastrous results. The film was nominated for a Best Screenplay Oscar and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Wild China (2008)
This six-part series from the BBC uncovers some of the most exotic and uncharted natural habitats hidden within the vast and diverse topography of China, including Yunnan's forests, the Tibetan plateau, the Silk Road and the Mongol steppes. Through high-definition and other cutting-edge camera technologies, the footage presented here captures stunning wildlife sequences, along with a plethora of breathtaking landscape photography.

Watching tonight...

i started this recently to catch up on some television:

LOST - 1/3rd of the way through the 2nd season
Dexter - will start as soon as i finish LOST
Jericho - started this, but realized it was really shitty

lessee..the last couple movies i watched on stream:

A Boy and His Dog - 70s post-nuke holocaust film. low-budget, but with a really insane ending.
Surf Nazis Must Die - shitty, even by troma standards
Heavy Metal - pretty damn amazing
Eraserhead - see above
The Short Films of David Lynch: Lumiere, The Cowboy and the Frenchman, The Amputee, The Grandmother, Six Men Getting Sick - captivating, annoying and horrifying, depending on which one you watch

I hook up the bluray to the internets...and voila....

I stream rockumentaries .... recently hmmm, heavy metal baghdad, the roky erikson docu, hmm the Scott Walker one (30th century man)...

they also have cheap kungfu flicks by the gross...

because of these genres, I leave the heavyweight movies in the queue....

Actually I thought they had more.. I pretty much watched all of them.. anyway

Young Tiger
They have a lot of the 'Crash Masters' series
Shaolin Tiger Claw
And in the classic 'vs.' genre, they have Ninja vs. Mafia

They also Kurosawa's samurai movies: seven samurai, hidden fortress, yojimbo, sanjuro etc

We had this for a little while, but we never had time to take advantage of it so we scaled back our plan. I think the only movie we watched on it was Rachel Getting Married, and we watched an episode or two of No Reservations, 30 Rock, and some SNL thing. The streaming quality of the movie was pretty bad, but the shows looked fine.

But, like, why couldn't you just discuss these same movies in the movies thread?

I mean it's one thing if you want to talk about TV shows you're watching via streaming or DVD. That would deserve its own thread.

I need to update some firmware or something. Mine stopped working a while back and I've been too lazy to try to figure out how to get it going again.

They have the House of Cards trilogy which is pretty fantastic. I can't imagine Bloor and GAR not going nuts over it.

I haven't watched them but I have a bunch of Ken Burns' docs (Huey Long, The Congress, Brooklyn Bridge, etc) in my queue for whenever i get my system up and running again.

Also, a ton of early years SNLs.

Not the $5 one.

Just finding the time to watch 1 movie a week has gotten really difficult for us for some reason. Hope that changes soon.

I should probably do that plan too. I don't even have the streaming working and it usually takes months for me to get around to watching what they send.

Thanks for the tip on the House of GARds thing.

See, this is why this thread is useful, Drinkster.

I unfortunately don't have a lot of recs. as this is more my wife's thing but I have watched Man On Wire and Athens Georgia Inside Out as streams.

I am pretty obsessive about keeping up with what is currently available on Netflix Instant. Here are some recent additions and/or standouts:

Un Chien Andalou
Touch of Evil
The Seventh Seal

Tears of the Sun
The Goonies-Watched this recently too and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would.
Dr. Strangelove

Synecdoche NY
Rising Son: Christian Hosoi--If you haven't seen this Dalen, I would start here
The Proposition
Eraserhead
Manda Bala--amazing documentary about Brazil. Highly recommended
Inside Deep Throat
Audition
Brick
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
A Tale of Two Sisters
Hoop Dreams
This American Life: Seasons 1 and 2
Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired
Night of the Living Dead
Word Wars
Ninja Scroll
Altered States
Bottle Shock
Capturing the Friedmans--another must-see
Cool Hand Luke
Pan's Labyrinth
Miller's Crossing

I have my instant queue filled to capacity with stuff and I check for new additions every day. If I find something I think others might like I'll post it here.
