This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Monday, July 27 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Even though I don't really like it that much, I went with Radiohead.

i'm gonna try to balance out the anti-radiohead votes to come. even though it's probably my least favorite of theirs.

How is any of this a surprise?

Had to go with Amnesiac, as much as it pains me, because the rest of those albums are total shyte. And I cannot tell you how much I despise Animal Collective. I hate them more than I hate Phish. And trust me, that means something.

edit: haven't heard unwound though. So exclude that from my hatred. :)

I love it when Todd gets on his high horse.

I don't know any of these except for Radiohead. Damn...never thought I'd vote for Amnesiac for anything under any circumstances.

Don't need a high horse to call "bullshit".

Like that Unwound and Smog quite a bit, but Animal Collective gets my vote here.

Much better group than the first 4, IMO, but I'm not that big on No Age or Amnesiac.

Still, pretty tough between Unwound, Smog, and Animal Collective. I went with Animal Collective. I voted for that album in the all time poll so of course I'm doing so here as well.

Unwound. That record is a beast that is still kind of challenging and all over the place.

I went to their show in Athens the night before I left Athens and college forever. Always reminds me of Fall for some reason.

I should pull that out this weekend.
