This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Reigning Sound. I'm almost proud that it's doomed to fail here.

I guess I'll go with Blackalicious, but I probably should have abstained with this grouping.

sufjan, in possibly the easiest choice yet.

yet still not worthy of top of any decade.

Yeah.

In a perfect world, Greg Cartwright would be as big as Jack White.

Reigning Sound and I even like "Too Much Guitar" more than this one. FYI, their new one is out on August 11th.

That's actually the only Sufjan record I still like even though I probably haven't listened to one of his records in almost 2 years. So I guess "like" is relative.

Also, Kanye?

Man, for me, his stuff has not really aged all that well. Or was never that good to begin with.

When I was looking over best of year lists I was shocked that Late Registration won the top spot for album of the year in the Pazz and Jop poll. (or was it The College Dropout)

Man. Not sure what that says about the state of hip hop in this decade. Either it's been bad for a while now or it was in dire need of an over the top personality.

My favorite Sufjan by far and an easy pick for me in this group.

I voted Kanye here. His singles are still pretty tight.

Tough choice between Blackalicious and Sufjan. I'm kind of out of my OMG SUFJAAAHN IS THE BESTESTEVERZ stage... but I still respect the hell out of what he does... and Seven Swans is kind of the epitome of what he's done. (Well, my personal favorite is Enjoy Your Rabbit... but I view that as a totally different beast from everything else he's done). Yeah, I think I just talked myself into sufjan vote. I love, like, the first 5 tracks on that Blackalicious joint... but after that I kind of get lost. Too long, too much filler.

Efforts must be doubled to fight this nemesis.

I blame Loog for voting for Girl Talk.

Exactly.

Show me a hip hop record that doesn't have at least one or two flat out terrible songs and I'll be a surprised man.

Wrong thread, reading failer.

I am trying to avoid voting for the massive suck, but am not voting strategically. In that specific poll, I'll say it, I just don't really like Marah. All the elements are there....except the really good tunes. They are OK, but nothing to write home about.

Blackalicious, though I have no issue with this Sufjan record going through.
