This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Modest Mouse, although I believe Wilco takes it.

QotSA barely edged out Wilco. I won't be disappointed if either make it.

went with streets because they won't win.

ted leo.

didn't want to vote wilco but it'll probably win anyways.

not a fan of modest mouse but i like a few songs off that one.

qotsa and streets albums are just average.

Voted TL. That QOTSA album got played a TON when it first came out, though. And I like YHF, but it's not my favorite Wilco.

How are YHF and Moon and Antartica in the same group in a qualifier?

Modest Mouse, and I'm surprised it isn't doing better.

I should probably hear that Ted Leo album, but I've just been really disinterested in him for a long time. I dunno, maybe now I'd like it.

Like the QOTSA and of course YHF. Hate The Streets.

Went with Queens, if only to man up this whole jaunt a little.

Rated R would have been a better choice though...

Three of my favorite 20 albums of the decade in one group (2 of my top 5).

Went with Wilco by a nose over MM and a length over T Leo.

Tall buildings shake. Voices escape singing sad sad songs. Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks. Bitter melodies turning your orbit around.
