This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Gotta go with the Bielanko brothers.

I didn't like Sound Of Silver near as much as the S/T. It ventures too far into full on club dance music at times while the self titled still sounded like a guy who still had one foot in punk and indie rock but was making a dance record. The S/T was more diverse as well IMO.

That said, "Someone Great" might be the best song they ever did.

the only two out of this group i like are Sound of Silver and Streethawk. I used to like that Marah but grew bored of it. I like Sound of Silver quite a bit more than Streethawk though.

I like that LCD Soundsystem, but not quite enough to vote for it.

Marah.

The first three in the poll I like, but Marah is easily my choice.

Marah by a mile.

"North American Scum" is a pretty good song on that LCD but I hear it at the beginning of Ron & Fez everyday. Burnout.

Sound of Silver was my pick and might be the only electronic type of album (sadly there will probably only be one) to advance to the second round.

Sound of Silver is James' apex as it is a complete album where as the debut sounds like a bunch (though very, very good) singles. still would rather listen to LCD than a bunch of other stuff that came out this decade...

Marah just over Girl Talk. "North American Scum" is great, but the rest of the album didn't really stick.

I went with Papa M since it was my nom (though I never expected it to win anything). Sound of Silver is a strong album, and agree with Derris about "Someone Great."
