This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Wednesday, July 29 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

If I could ignore the painfully terrible lyrics of Interpol, it would win. I can't though and that might be my favorite DBT's so DBT's.

Damn, I'm terrible at choosing. If I was Sophie, I'd sent them both to the camps.

Fuckin' Lucero.

I've never understood the Interpol love around here, but it's real and it's strong.

I nominated the album, and even I am amazed by it.

You beat me to that nomination. Another likely top 3 of the decade for me. They've never come close to approaching the greatness of this album since, though.

I'm calling shenanigans here, OPA. any of these albums is better than most of the albums in every other group....

I'm voting for it for the first song on that record alone.

The rest of that record didn't age so well.

Actually I listened to that Interpol the other day and I thought "this is still interesting." The voices (nor lyrics) certainly aren't the deal for me, but the strummy sound of the guitars is nice.

Yeah, I really don't get the "not aging well" thing here. Oh, well.
