This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Wednesday, July 29 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

4

Two of them have already made the tourney at the expense of much better indie rock, electronic and hip hop albums.

Opa seems to be purposely limiting the amount of "regular rock" that can advance by including them all together and hoping their vote is split.

Hold Steady is probably the best but not by enough that I really care who takes this. I'm gonna hold off voting for now and will be a spoiler for whatever one of the handful I like stands the best chance of winning.

Nothing here for me.

DBT are okay, but their sound is better than their songs.

The Hold Steady are a fucking joke.

halleluiah came to in a confession booth. infested with infections. smiling on an abcessed tooth. running hard on residue. crashing thru the vestibule. the crucifixion cruise. she climbed the cross and found she liked the view. sat reflecting on the resurrection. talking loud over lousy connections. she put her mouth around a difficult question. she said lord what do you recommend? to a real sweet girl who's made some not sweet friends. lord what would you prescribe? to a real soft girl who's having real hard times.

And, he as much as said he's annoyed that 2 DBT's records have advanced over "more deserving indie rock, hip hop, and elecronic albums".

Far be it from me to bitch about this exercise when I'm not taking on the responsibility but something does feel rotten in Denmark when two obviously popular reg-rock bands get thrown in the same bracket together and are arguably their respective best albums.

Especially given some of the brackets that have featured 3, sometimes 4 obscure records that were voted on by the person that nominated them and maybe one other person.

Seems like if we want to give other genres their fair shot then put a indie rock album, electronic album, reg rock album, singer songwriter all in the same bracket when possible.

Just a suggestion.
