Bearded dragon.
Anyone ever keep a lizard for a pet?
What can we expect? Anything we should know?

Mostly a lot of sitting around, I think. It will live under a light bulb, eat stuff, slowly get bigger, and then croak. On its deathbed, it will not know you from a stop sign.

They do have a cool name though.

No.
Had cats (my wife's) but, when we discovered Ethan's allergies a few years ago, we gave them to my in-laws.

You know what makes a GREAT friend for a bearded dragon?

A six-week old kitten.

They'll be so cute.

A buddy of mine had one that he would randomly leave on the couch, or in your bed if you "slept" at his house.

Reptiles are creepy and should not be kept as pets.

Had a gecko for a few years for my youngest son. I don't think reptiles are creepy at all, but I've never seen one that qualified as a "pet" in the way I understand the term.

But why would I do that?
They don't bother me.

Changed that.
I thought that you were the one afraid of reptiles.

EDIT: and it was a friendly jab, anyway, that I realized came off as kinda harsh.

oh no offense taken, I was just genuinely confused.

I know a guy who used to have one of them-there fancy lizards. He had 2 or 3 different kinds, actually. Once you've checked them out for about 60 seconds, sleeping there in their terrarium, there's not really a whole helluvalot more to the relationship. But he seemed to like them, and if the boy has his heart set on it... what's a dad to do I guess.

it can't eat your couch.
it doesn't get fleas.
it eats lettuce and green beans (I think).
it won't make your house smell like cat piss.
when it dies, he'll frown for little bit, but not cry at "golden retriever" levels.

That's about as funny as a shattered glass catheter.

Put it in the crawlspace. Win-win.

His first choice was a Jackson Chameleon, but aren't those suckers fast as hell? and don't they eat some sort of nasty bugs?

I thought the bearded dragons ate mealworms.
