OK- I just read through the Huckabees thread, and the question was posed about what someone's top movies were, yesterday, it was suggested that listmania be revisited.

Since it was generally agreed upon that its too soon for another music listmania, should we explore one for movies? I know were a music board and all, and I will not be one of the people compiling the lists, but I think it would be an interesting exercise and selfishly, I would get a lot of cool movie recs.

Thoughts??

I think we should just do our Favorite Movies of all time, and not limit ourselves by year or genre.

We could submit up to 100, but if you only have 20 that would still be OK.

I would be ALL for this and if I may speak for our favorite Senator I know he would be too. But, I'd only participate if at least a good amount of Obners agreed to.

I am interested. Here is the link to the post I started towards the end of the year about everyone's favorite movies for 2004. http://www.obner.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1874&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I tired the whole Obnscars but that kind of fizzled. I would be interested in compiling

I'm not a huge movie person (like some of y'all) but I'd be down for it. What better do we have to do with our miserable lives?

Someone totally didn't get a Snoopy Sno Cone Maker for christmas...

You guys can lose hair over picking out & putting in order your 100 fav. movies - I'll be rolling around the floor of my room in a red syrup stained T-Shirt dreaming of the Easy Bake oven I'm hoping to get for my birfday next month...

-BEST USE OF MOVIE TEETH

-FUNNIEST CHARACTER WARDROBE

-BITCHIEST COMMENT EVER

-KURT RUSSELL'S MARVELOUS ACCENTS

y'know, stuff like that.

I could be down but damn if it wouldn't be time consuming and require some research.

I'm sure I will encounter the same problems as with the Listmania list. Those being how to rank something I love vs movies that are artistic achievements.j

For example:

I loved Big Trouble in Little China in sooo many ways but can I really put it ahead of Godfather II?

Decisions, decisions.

One of my local video stores (Cinefile on Santa Monica, for the L.A. Folk) has the BEST CATEGORIES EVER. They have a director's wall, their horror and sci fi sections are divided by themes (Werewolf, alien abduction, blobs, it came from beyond, ect.). Plus, they have extensive collections of Charles Bronson, Russian-American Buddies, and (my favorite) the "Tippin' Shades" section, which not only features only movies where there is 80's shade-tipping within the feature and on the box, but a large selection of Michael J Fox Films (Secret of my success, Doc Hollywood, The Hard Way, Back To The Future 1, ect.)

Another underated MJ Fox flick. Someone was asking yesterday about what one would consider a Michael J movie. Forgot about this one.

Yes. This will be a problem for me too. Some movies are in no way classics but they had a huge impact on me because of the time in my life that I first saw them.

Also, how in the hell do you compare Time Bandits with Double Indemnity?

How do you want to score this. I had propsed in an earlier thread a system like this.

1/2 x (Overall ranking)

+

1/2 x (Ranking by number of mentions)

This prevents one person ranking Gigli as #1 from skewing the whole fucking thing.

I will take e-mailed lists at the old obnscars@yahoo.com address. That is of course if you want me to keep score. Are we saying up to 100, 20 movie minimum.

I think if we should vote for our FAVORITE movies, not the GREATEST movies. If you enjoyed Big trouble in Little China more than the English Patient (as I did) then you should rank them as such. I'd like to see our list have recommendations for movies that are just fun flicks as well as considered "important works of art".

I am down, and am willing to help do the tabulations.

I think this will be much harder than music lists, because I typically don't buy movies, even ones I think are really good. Obviously, it is not so with music. I'll have to do a lot of research so I don't forget about anything.

Many excellent points have already been hit upon:

-It should be Favorites, not Best

-It should be any movie from any time, no restrictions

-And this will indeed take a ton of research
