this dude from another board loves techn9ne. he goes to the gathering every year. stole this from him for discussion here.

http://ericbeall.berkleemusicblogs.com/ ... -about-it/

What’s So Strange About It?

I’ll admit it– being caught up in the NY music business game, it’s a little bit surprising to find out that the industry is being reinvented somewhere in Kansas City.

Luckily, I have those of you who regularly read this blog, one of whom was able to clue me into the Tech N9ne phenomenon, which frankly, I had completely missed. In a response to one of the blogs, Arthur Fischer had cited TechN9ne as an example of a massively successful independent artist who had escaped the need for radio play and expensive promotion. Interestingly, only a month or two later, I opened Billboard to find a full article about TechN9ne’s groundbreaking business model. It’s worthwhile reading for any independent musician in any style…

Check out the Billboard , July 4, 2009 issue.

The interesting thing is that there’s really nothing that groundbreaking at all in Tech N9ne’s operation. It’s Business 101. Only in the fantasy land that is the entertainment industry could the ideas of “every dollar invested needs to make two dollarsâ€

I have never heard of this person but I love his business model and have been touting it for years.

Good on him.

When I worked at a record store, whenever his new releases came out, we'd get a ton of copies in. It baffled me, until I saw how fast they went out the door. The guy, for all his kookiness, is a genuine underground phenom.

I just read that jack White is worth something like fifty million. Good on him.

I'd say he's the most business savvy rock and roller to come around in a while....

I remember hearing that he was big with kids in my high school a few years after i graduated. I see his albums everywhere but i'm not sure i've ever heard a song before. Good for him.

He's huge with the white rap kids here being that he's from KC. I believe he has CP or some physical ailment. He's pretty feeble looking in person, like a lot of rappers.
I'm sort of amazed he's worth a million, but then again Conor Oberst owns a house worth more than a half million dollars in Omaha.
Tech9 usually plays 500-1,000 capacity clubs and auditoriums around here.
I hadn't heard anything about him recently, but one of my brother's friends used to be an uber-fan.

Besides Snoop and David Banner, ever Rapper I ever had to work with at the arena was crackhead thin and barely my height.

The list isn't very long, but from what I still remember it includes Ludacris, Chingy, Fabolous, Too Short and while not a legitimate rapper, Tyrese.
I can't remember everyone in Tech Nine's entourage or who performed with Tyrese, but none of those people were imposing either. Physically speaking they were more disappointing to meet than all the metal performers who were tiny.

jesus those pics are disturbing. It's great that the one chick is jamming a squirt gun down her vag in one pic, and then like 2 pics later the same gun is in a 10 year old kid's mouth.

wait who the fuck would bring a kid to that? There is no possible way he'd be worse off unsupervised in a trailer full of rattlesnakes.

as a parent, I am mentally prepared to deal with a lot of comparatively pedestrian problems, like drug abuse, white slavery and teen pregnancy, but I am completely unequipped to deal with that.

there's a very real possibility that some of these kids were bartered for meth. or Faygo.
