Really disappointed with this. Couple decent songs and not much else.

hmm. maybe i won't like this then. i think one mississippi is his weakest with just a couple standouts whereas lapalco is brilliant from beginning to end and alternative to love is more or less 50/50.

i am seeing him later this week. i'm pretty psyched to see him again and in another small venue.

post what your thoughts are after seeing him. i only saw him once during the one mississippi period. and thought he was outstanding.

new songs were pretty good. i wasn't blown away, but i really enjoyed a few. it was the 4th time i've seen him, so i've seen/heard a lot of his tricks. other than a superdrag cover, it was business as usual.

i still haven't listened to the album, despite buying it at the show. maybe i'll do that tonight.

Schuba's?

He rocked that place when I saw him after the Shins parking lot concert back in the day.

yeah, he played schubas. last time he was here, he played a half-full (if that) metro. schubas worked much better. it'll probably be the last time he plays such a small place here. even if schubas books him again, they'd most likely put him at lincoln hall.

Might I suggest the word "brand" between "the" and "new"?

Actually getting some commercial airplay here in Chicago.
Ya think it's the Jack White/Raconteurs connection?

we played with the waxwings some years back and benson was playing guitar with them. after the show we had a post party at my apartment and all the waxwings + benson came back and we drank a lot of whiskey. he kept calling the guitarist he replaced a pussy. other than that he seemed cool.

thats my brendan benson story

If he called the old Waxwings guitarist a pussy, what did he call the rest of the band?

It's got enough words, just that the word "crap" is misplaced. It should appear at the end of the sentence.

But that would imply that the title of the new Brendan Benson album is Holy.

It's good, but it's not his best. He used a little too much armor-all in the mastering studio on this one. And "Don't Wanna Talk" sounds like a Butch Walker song.

I'm really liking this new album, probably will make my top 20 for the year

70's era power-pop album of the year, he's like this decades Matthew Sweet
