I actually listened to the clip of 'Sunday Morning' and it actually wasn't as bad. I'm not sure how the rest will turn out.

[quote]Beck to Redo Classic Albums in Star-Studded Record Club, The Velvet Underground and Nico up First

Okay, only Beck would come up with an idea this cool. Check it out: indie rock’s favourite son will include a feature called Record Club on his website later this summer, where he will rerecord classic albums in spans of 24 hours.

The first album on the docket has been announced as — drum roll, please —The Velvet Underground and Nico.

Once recorded, the spontaneous (and unrehearsed) albums will be released song by song on his website, as well as the websites of participating artists. Known in his live set for adding cover songs, those of Nick Drake and Hank Williams being just two examples, Beck has recruited some friends to help him out with the ongoing covers project, including Devendra Banhart, Jamie Lidell, producer Nigel Godrich and this year’s Bonnaroo darlings MGMT.

Beck and MGMT are no strangers to collaboration. In October of last year, the covert cover collaborators played a surprise show at Martyrs in Chicago, performing songs by Beatles, Mott the Hoople, Jimi Hendrix, and, yes, the Velvet Underground.

Meanwhile, Whiskey Clone’s Paper Tiger blog reports a seven-inch vinyl version of Beck covering the Velvet Underground’s “Sunday Morningâ€

I just snagged this last night but haven't played it yet. I'm a little scared to hear 'European Sun'.

I'm more excited for his album with Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Didn't Phish do something like this as part of their live show? I seem to recall at the least a Talking Heads album done front-to-back... & somehow, I seem to recall hearing it were an annual thing, at the Phish Summer-Stock or something. Different album each time, though.

Cannot wait for Beck's turn in a Look Who's Talking remake.

(Seriously, I bet all three (!) of those movies were Scientologic propaganda. Someone should parse the scripts.)

And yes, they called it their musical costume, as the covers typically happened on Halloween, the exception being their cover of Dark Side of the Moon in West Valley City, UT @ the E-Center. I thought they did a great job with Talking Head's Remain in Light. I believe Yail Bloor was an eye witness for that one at the Omni in Atlanta.
