I’ve been spending my Friday evening with A.A. Bondy’s sophomore effort, When The Devil’s Loose. The album will be released via Fat Possum on September 1st. The album was recorded in Water Valley, MS in April and May. The album sports a full band on most tracks, which expands the sounds we became familiar with on the debut album American Hearts. It’s a damned fine listening experience is what it is. I wish the thunder storm that crossed my path this evening wouldn’t have left town so quickly, cos this is a perfect companion for it.

Thanks for this.

A few good tracks on American Hearts, especially the 'murder ballad' opener 'How Will You Meet Your End' which is fantastic.

I know they used to send out all sorts of samplers and stuff circa 2002, but I have no idea what goes on with that lately.

I had a friend lose it on me about this. SOunded a little lo-fi/ghey from his descriptions. D/l/d though, will report back.

It's certainly nothing to lose ones head over, and yes & maaaybe to your buddy's descriptions. I just like that one song quite a bit. Haven't played the new one yet.

Maybe it's the leaves changing. Maybe it's the crispness in the air in the morning and at night. Maybe it's my general melancholy mood these days but this album has been hitting a sweet spot. Then again, I usually gravitate towards the singer/songwriter or americana type stuff this time of year anyway.

Regardless, this is great. From the full band stuff to the simply picked acoustic folk song. This is easily his best work and the kind of album that takes a little time walking the earth to make.

alright. That's what I needed to hear. Didn't really care for him when I saw him open for someone in Nashville, but will give it a shot.

On a semi-related note, back in April I saw the former bass-player for Verbena, Duquette Johnson, open for The Avett Bros in Birmingham at Sloss Furnace. He was decent. Good reg-rocker.

The title track has been on repeat in my house for days. What a great song.
