When I 'worked' in the recording studios pretty much all I did was read the paper, eat baguettes from the place upstairs, drink tea and play poker.

It is pretty addictive. However that was a few years ago now and I've not played since. I don't even think I remember the rules properly now.

A couple of years ago Channel 4 in the UK broadcast live poker games from the World Championships or something and it was brilliant to watch. They had glass tables so they could have cameras underneath and you could see the cards as they were dealt. And most of those pro poker players are shady looking characters!

I was a mad poker player from about 22-28. In my circle of friends, I won most regularly. Helped that they all sucked.

Sometimes I watch these poker tournaments and I get that old itch....then I get over it.

I'm so addicted I've taught my 6-year old daughter Texas hold'em so I always have a partner handy. The sad thing is, she often beats me.

And no, we don't play for money. She already has a college fund, she doen't need any more handouts from me.

The fill-in announcer at the station brings his laptop with him everytime he comes in to run the board for a basketball or hockey game and plays poker online the whole time.

It the best! On my recent trip to Vegas, I got 4 aces in a Luxor tournament... unfortunately I got them while it was still limit (first hour, limit hold 'em). That was quite a rush though.

I was hooked befoer Vegas... after, I can't get enough. For those who frequent Sin City... the Sahara had the best tourney... $60 buy in with a $40 re-buy and $20 add on. All the locals and some of the ESPN regulars play in that one. My buddy got knocked out by Annie Tran.

But it brings legitimacy to the Ben Afflecks and Richard Jenis.

Where would Tom Arnold be without The Best Damn Sports Show Ever? Probably on The TV Guide Channel. Don't take away the safety net for useless celebs. Ben will have to be on The Surreal Life or host a Travel Channel show or something.

I like booze too much to be any good at poker. The more I drink the less attention span I have. Luckily I realized early on and so I stay the hell away from poker tables.

Not even close dude; bars are going from having a "poker night" to "poker NIGHTS". I have even suggested someone opening a poker bar---not unlike the backgammon bars back in the day.

I hate losing.

I hate losing money more.

Combine these things with lots of beer and it equals me not being very fun to play poker with.

Honestly for me, the high of winning isn't as great as the low of losing is low for me therefore I don't play that often.

The only gambling I like is sports gambling and maybe a little blackjack.

Haha. Once you play for real money you get unaddicted to play money.

If you don't play for money your not really playing poker. Why ever fold? No strategies for betting, checking, raising, or even bluffing. Something tangible needs to be on the line to make it real.

My friends will typically have a $10 buy in when we play. It's not much and it makes it interesting. When we get a little more brazen we may up it to $40.

We usually spend more money on the booze then we do on the game. $10 for 3-4 hours of solid entertainment is easily worth losing. I go into like going to a movie. I pay my money which i don't expect to get back to be entertained. On the rare occasion i win (bad luck with the cards lately) i leave drunk with a little cash in the pocket. Not bad.

I've been playing poker regularly since high school and its amazing to see the poker explosion on tv in the past few years. Who would have thought there would be a tv drama based around poker a few years ago? Not me.

I'm surprised Spade hasn't popped up in this thread.

He's a huge poker player/fiend. Many moons ago he spent some time trying to teach me, I don't think I was half bad for a novice. At least I caught on quickly.

But I haven't played the game since.

I can play it, but I'm not as big on it as some of my friends are...

Plus, I have some of the worst luck ever.
This extends to cards.
