From NME:

EDWYN COLLINS SERIOUSLY ILL

EDWYN COLLINS is seriously ill in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

The singer and guitarist was taken ill on Sunday night (February 20) and doctors are currently trying to stabilise his condition.

A statement from his management reads: “Edwyn Collins suffered a cerebral haemorrhage on Sunday night and has been in hospital since, where doctors are trying to stabilise his condition.

“As soon as we will have more information we will let you know.”

Collins fronted Orange Juice – the art rock combo who have been a major influence on many of today’s bands – from 1976 to 1985. He went on to enjoy solo success in 1995 with ‘A Girl Like You’.

His most recent project was as producer on the debut album from Little Barrie.

Jeezus, that's too bad.

<---- thought the thread title was Edwyn Collins III, like this was the third installment of the Edwyn Collins trilogy.

Shit!

I've been listening to alot of Orange Juice (whats new...) as a consequence of buying James Kirks solo album.

I, for one, will place a lucky Postcard Records of Scotland cat on West Princes Street of Dreams this weekend to send positive vibes Edwyns way.

I didn't realize he'd been around that long, either...I really just know the guy from "A Girl Like You" ( which no doubt will be stuck in my friggin' head the rest of the day now ) .

I've been enjoying Hellbent On Compromise, which I picked up a week or so ago. And hitting the OJ pretty hard for most of January... hope he pulls through.

Update:

EDWYN COLLINS has undergone emergency surgery after the brain haemorrhage he suffered over a week ago.

The singer was hospitalised after a cerebral haemorrhage last Sunday (February 20) and doctors spent the week trying to stabilise his condition.

Collins’ wife and manager Grace Maxwell confirmed that her husband had undergone surgery in a posting on his official website.

She wrote: “He has come through it as well as can be hoped for and is continuing to fight.”

Collins had told BBC 6Music’s Roundtable programme two days before he was hospitalised that he had been feeling ill: “I suddenly got a horrible sense of vertigo, the room started spinning around and I started puking up,” he said.

However, he initially put it down to food poisoning, adding: “I’m two days into recuperation and I should be fine.”
