Call me old-fashioned, but why is this billionaire douche making the news? Is it benefitting tsunami relief? Hot air balloons circumventing the globe and land speed records (and NASA for that matter) make no sense to me. We might as well spend time building a Paul Bunyon-size chocolate bunny landmark. And none of that hollow shit, either.

Not unless I shagged one of their relatives, no. I do appreciate their contributions to the aviation industry probably just as much as you, though. But I hate flying.

(ahem) I believe the word you're looking for is circumnavigating. Otherwise he'd be bypassing the world. Now THAT would be something signficant for the news.

To answer your question, I don't.

BUT, if it somehow does advance the pursuit of commercial space travel (for earth travel) it MIGHT be worthwhile but I don't think this did that.

Agreed. I think he did it for the glory - like C. Webber taking the final shot of a game.

"I ain't letting that sumbitch Branson out do me! Who the fuck does he think is!!?"

Dude...

He's rich and, for some god forsaken reason, he wants to fly a long distance in a balloon. Let the man have his fun/glory/whatever. You don't have to respect him, but you do have to accept him, or at least his accomplishment.

I think your chicken Dizzee says it best:

People are gonna respect me/ I've gotta make you respect me/ People are gonna respect me/ I've gotta make you respect me/ If -- it -- kills me
